In a silent way, the deep & slow: from Jamdowns nyabinghi poetry to Kalahari jazz chants , from Atlantas Gospel  churches to carpatian ritual folk melodies, music is the healing force of the universe.

Jesse Peterson and I chose to work with the collaborators and remixers featured on our new Turn On The Sunlight EP, because we're fans of their music! Jesse is a close musical co-explorer of Koen Holtkamp (Mountains /Thrill Jockey.) While in New York finishing our debut self-titled full-length, Holtkamp came by the studio and played on "Wednesday Tone Poem." We new we wanted to release the results, but weren't sure at the time, on what project. Here, it fits perfectly! "Profusion Electric"came about while I was listening to Build An Ark improvs, from our sessions for the LOVE Parts 1 & 2 releases,and wanted to see what would happen if we took this particular piece in an experimental psychedelic direction,so Jesse added guitars and organ. I had a lot of fun mixing and effecting this funky freak-out! I originally asked my dear friend Miguel Atwood-Ferguson to do a remix of one of the songs from the TOTS LP. He listened and chose Big Sur Foghorn, however, instead of doing a remix,he composed a gorgeous chamber journey inspired by the song. He played all of the instruments and co-mixed" Ghost fires From Heaven's Far Verges Faint Illume,"with engineer Benjamin Tierney. Daedelus and I have done a lot together over the years, and he's the most frequent remixer of my various projects. We're so stoked that "Firefly Night" was blessed with his magic! Being that our label Disques Corde is based in Japan, and that we'd just had a really beautiful tour there, we wanted to include a Japanese artist on the record. My first choice was Nobukazu Takemura. I've been buying his records since the mid-90s. We were delighted that he was into what we were doing! Sent him the parts and the result is an epic electro-acoustic Child's View white noise wash out of "Always Enough / Oh, Magnificent Nature."Finally, Coffee & Cigarettes Band were chosen by Disques Corde who they work with closely. We had a lot of fun with those cats while last in Japan, so it was great to have them on board! Thanks for listening!

2009 saw the international release of HIGH WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM, the debut by Carlos Niño & Friends. It was a record that featured, what Niño refers to as, "collage compostions." He used material from recording sessions and live concerts by his other ensembles, including Build An Ark and The Life Force Trio, as sound source for songs. He would then work with various collaborators on developing the pieces . . .

In front of you is the new record by Carlos Niño & Friends, entitled AQUARIUSSSSSSS. This project finds Niño back to work, sampling, looping, editing, and processing recordings he's made of himself playing various instruments, and recordings of ensembles that he leads. The feel is more ambient and new age than the first, and plays like a soundtrack to a film of psychedelic visual music, for exploration, reflection, meditation and relaxation.

In 1995 I passed on a mix tape to Groove Academy (Giant Step) Marc Labelle at an outdoor stage that was rocking with DJ's Jazzy Nice, Chillfreeze + Groove Collective & Nappy G live. They soon took me on as a 3rd DJ in the weekly rotation of the legendary Giant Step parties. The club vibes were HOT! There was a mix of hip hop, jazz, funk, live instrumentation, paintings, tap dancers as well as a very funky & sexy dance floor! Needless to say, I was hooked & thanks to Marc, Maurice Bernstein & Jonathan Rudnick, I stayed in the Giant Step crew for many years after. We pushed the sounds from Acid Jazz/funk, Hip Hop/Trip Hop, House & Drum & Bass- all with live musicians taking it to another level. I've also had the opportunity to DJ at shows for Jazzmattazz, Tricky, K&D, St Germain, Pharcyde, Groove Collective, Massive Attack, Gil Scott Heron & all the greats who passed through NYC at that time. Here's the 1st mix-tape I did for Giant Step in 1995. Magical Mystery Mix Part 1

Operating out of Melbourne, here is a group who have been showcasing jazz and diy experimentalism in a whole new light.

The four piece group have been making waves amidst funk, soul and jazz communities the world over and most recently released a nine track album via longstanding UK based imprint Mr Bongo, a label which has become an authority in the sound. 

"All News Is Good News" was released in July and was met with critical acclaim, it was well received and showcased the instrumental capabilities of a group very much on the rise. 

We invited them to piece together a mixtape, they do so in fine style.

Epic Vinyls from Brazil are Rasmus and Dona Carla from Copenhagen and Rio de Janeiro.

If you don't know them yet, their DJ Set are made up of exceptional, rare Brazilian music that you have probably never heard before (except for the specialists that you may be).
They have been digging for one year to make another mix on Le Mellotron dedicated the Brazilian goddess of the sea: Iemanjá.
From a pool of 30 themed records, they selected 16 highly danceable MPB (popular Brazilian music) rarities made to celebrate life and good music.
Iemanjá is celebrated on February 2nd all over Brazil and connected to blue and white colors, rivers and oceans, white flowers, love and cleansing.

This name of this mix is ABOM-5. The 5th mixtape in their Afro Brazil Orixa Mix series - which traces the influence of african rhytms and spirituality in Brazilian music. Major MPB artists from Rio like Wando and Elza Soares are mixed with tracks from Bahia, Belem and São Paulo.
