For this weeks Edit Room we are hugely gassed to welcome Silverback to the series! The Leeds based DJ, producer, and co-owner of label Basement Labs has been making big movements in the scene with recent releases ‘Nebula’ and ‘Fulminate’ out now, and a track featured on Partiboi 69’s Spotify playlist. Alex has plenty more music set to be out in the coming months so keep your eyes peeled 👀 

Silverback has put together a thunderous acid-electro remix of Dizzee Rascal and Fekky’s 2014 monster ‘Still Sittin’ Here’, not for the faint eared 👊

Not Bad for a Girl are proud to be supporting Brighter Sound, a creative music charity, with this release. Rooted in the North of England, they change the lives of individuals through music, support and promote diverse talent and act as a catalyst for change in the music sector, from education to industry. All profits from this compilation will be going to Brighter Sound.

DaiSu's contribution to NBFG001 is a stunning production which utilises foley, the reproduction and manipulation of everyday sounds, to form a deeply transcendent atmosphere rooted in a styling which walks the line between dub traditions and contemporary uk bass.

Leeds garage connoisseur and Time Is Now family member Groovy D is back with a kaleidoscopic 4-tracker which sees him explore the many different flavours of UKG with the help of grime legend, Trim.

When it comes to rhythm and texture, BadderDanDem EP leaves few stones unturned. On the title track, a heavily swung two-step rhythm - seemingly off kilter yet fiercely controlled - keeps you on your toes, whilst sinister sub groans and the unmistakable flow of protean MC, Trim, make it a real soundsystem banger. Next up, ‘187Dreams’ welcomes the first of many shifts in mood. At once maintaining the womping bassline which make it equally as suited to big stacks, this one sees melody take centre stage, licked with infectious vocals which inject a dose of groove and soul. Flip the record over and speed garage banger ‘Haul&Pull’ brings the high-octane ruffage before ‘97Groove’ adds a bit of sex appeal, closing precedings luscious pads and and a tight two-step rhythm.

As the first returning artist on Gimme A Break Records, Oldboy’s “Mule Kick EP” melds numerous musical influences to construct a carefully balanced release. The EP’s opening track “Get Em Up” offers a rolling breakbeat composition founded upon a mischievous organ house bassline. “Sound O’ Da Metro Centre” and “Mule Kick” see a return to Oldboy’s rawer and more sonically aggressive production style with particular reference to Sheffield’s Niche scene in the former. In “Unsettled”, Oldboy experiments with percussive electro while maintaining the EP’s scratchadelic soundscape. Closing the release, Paris-based producer and DJ Pépé Elle provides a mind-warping 808 Remix of “Unsettled” fitted with a contorted half-time second drop for added pleasure.
