@gio_goltara (Giovani Goltara, he-him) has discovered that electronic dance music is where he feels most comfortable expressing himself. Ever since his early rave days, he's been drawn to electronic beats infused with Latin American rhythms. 

Digging through records from the 1990s, GIO uncovered a treasure of productions that appropriated diverse sonorities from the global south. 
Now, he's on a mission to bring these sounds back and re-appropriate them for queer dance events, particularly in Berlin, where he's been organizing parties since 2021. 

One of his standout events is Coven, which focuses on celebrating queer Latin American culture through music and dance.

El House juega un papel fundamental en mi vida, al igual que en la de muchas personas queer y migrantes. Junto con los afrodescendientes, los latinos han  fusionado raíces para crear el estilo musical que nos hace bailar hacen décadas. Mis primeras raves, yá a los 26 años, me hicieron sentir parte de una escena artística única. Como estudiante y profesor de historia del arte, me di cuenta de que era parte de una expresión artística que aún no se enseñaba en la universidad. Desde entonces, el House y el baile han sido mi mayor fascinación artística.
Para este mix, seleccioné vinilos y tracks recientes producidos por personas que comparten experiencias de vida similares a las mías. Seguro que muchos los compré mientras estaba bien colocado de marihuana. ¡Parece que yo y la hierba tenemos un bello gusto musical en común! Entonces ahí están 39 tracks que me hacen tripear :)

Directamente desde la pista de baile, disfruta de esta mezcla de GIO (@gio_goltara) y Feasting (@dr_feasting) recorded live en Coven, Berlin.

Ambos nacidos en Sudamérica, Giovani Goltara (Brazil) y Miguel Jara (Chile) comienzan su trabajo en conjunto en el underground de Berlín en el año 2020, participando activamente en el restablecimiento de la actividad cultural de la música electrónica hacia el final de los confinamientos. Su colectivo Coven (@coven666) es reflejo de la necesidad de la apertura de espacios en la escena europea desde una perspectiva interseccional: su identidad queer y migrante moviliza la política de su trabajo desde la anti-colonialidad, la género-disidencia y la apertura de las barreras de clase en la música electrónica.

Tanto su trabajo como selectores y como productores bajo el pseudónimo The Midnight Service (@the-midnight-service) refleja un entendimiento de la influencia latinoamericana y queer en la historia de la música house y evidencia su experiencia y sensibilidad en crear atmósferas elegantes influenciadas por la cultura de club de Berlín de los últimos años.

El presente mix es un recorte grabado en la última edición de Coven en Berlín, incluyendo los sonidos que sin lugar a dudas refleja su actual identidad musical: irreverente, queer y latinoamericana, pero sin dejar de lado la elegancia y el hipnotismo de las pistas de baile de la capital Alemana.

Jarlée is the name of our most recent MellowCast, an astonishing musician that I just met at Hoppla Festival.

The Kassel-born artist first engaged herself in DJing rather spontaneously, but it was from then on that she really played her way up and down Kassel's club scene. It didn't take long until she was booked on her first festival gig, and in spring, this marvelous artist played four (4!) performances in Guatemala. 

When I heard her sweet downtempo set at "Hoppla" in Kassel, a most beautiful morning sky got even brighter ;) I instantly fell in love with her sound with its underlying, ever-present South American tone...

Seems like a smooth start of the week... oh it's tuesday.

GIO (Giovani Goltara, he/him) is a Brazilian producer and DJ based in Berlin. Drawn to sunny House beats infused with polyrhythmic Latin American drums since his early rave days, GIO digs through 1990s records to uncover productions that resonate with his roots. He shines on queer crowds and open-air dance floors, blending classic House with contemporary Latin tunes to create refreshing and varied dance experiences. Since 2021, he's been organizing parties in Berlin, including Coven, a standout event celebrating queer Latin American culture through music and dance. His productions have been released on labels like U’re Guay Records (UY), Vigor Trax (MX), Tandera Records (BR), and House of Others (ESP).
