Premiere: P41 - Lost (Octave One Remix) [Festina Lente]

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

Octave One's set for us last year was phenomenal; the energy, setting and metronomic head twists made it a no-brainer for inclusion in our Best of 2014. If you're that way inclined, you can hear the story behind how Boiler Room helped relaunch their career in more depth over here [INSERT LINK TO MICHAIL INTERVIEW HERE], as relayed to Derek Plaslaiko and our very own Michail. Seven tracks from Moscow made it onto their new LP, due May 26th, of which "Afterglow" was arguably the strongest.
Much like the towering behemoth of "Blackwater", it's a synergy of styles; dozens of boxes chattering away to one another in harmony. Somehow the track manages to be both flinty hard and yet shimmering, the lead curdled and yet crystal-clear. It's dancefloor TNT, an emphatic return from the brothers Burden. Burn It Down indeed.

Audiojack explain that ​“‘Inside My Head’ was inspired by an old prog record from the 90s that used the same vocal. ‘Behind The Curtain’ is based around random noise generators and industrial sounds, which give it a very robotic feel. Then the distorted Wurlitzer piano comes in like a human rebellion against the machines and the track becomes a tete-a-tete between the two concepts”.

Audiojack ​began life over a decade ago on Ralph Lawson’s seminal imprint 20/20 Vision. Since then Underworld, Groove Armada and Hot Since 82 are among the artists who have enlisted them for remix duties. GusGus brings deep, rumbling, and shadowy frequencies to a new level for his take on ‘Copenhagen’. Pulling us into the future, while taking us into the mists of the night, this is serious electronica for discerning ravers.
  
Travelling you into another dimension, with a nod to electro of the past, Henry Saiz retains the essence of Giorgia’s ‘Inspiration,’ offering it back to the dancefloor with an often broken, but always dynamic retro vibe.

Giorgia Angiuli - Copenhagen (GusGus Remix) [Snippet]

Drumcode mainstay Bart Skils links up with emerging DJ/producer Weska for a maiden collaboration.

The duo first met in 2013 when Bart played Toronto’s iconic Coda, where Weska was a regular. In friendship and in music, they clicked effortlessly. Since then, the Dutchman has become one of DC’s most vital contributors, releasing a consistent stream of standout productions on the label, highlighted by the now-classic ‘Your Mind’ with Adam Beyer. Meanwhile the rhythmic power of Weska’s productions caught the ear of Beyer who gave the young Canadian his debut on the imprint with ‘Other Places’ when ‘A-Sides Vol.7’ dropped last summer.

When Weska migrated to Berlin a plan was hatched to collaborate, with the pair swapping ideas back and forth, before linking up in Amsterdam to finish the work. The propulsive ‘Polarize’ EP is the result, a pair of cuts that have highlighted Beyer’s gigs at Department Festival in Stockholm, Junction 2 and his behemoth B2B with Cirez D at EDC Vegas. The title cut packs a punch with rugged basslines and pin-sharp percussion, while stabs of melody dip in and out with euphoric effect. ‘Lost On You’ is a heady trip into the abyss with a sinister vocal line and powerful climax.
