Mateusz Miller solidified his position as one of the most exciting global ambassadors for the sound with his 2011 debut album and he returns to the mighty Moonshine Recordings with another killer full length selection of thick dread bassweight and proper roots vibes. Matt’s influences have always been varied, and his music’s rich diversity is in full effect across the LP as he adeptly shifts between tempos and moods, utilising his ear for melody and rhythm to create an absorbing collection of timeless sounds. The ground shaking sub-frequencies central to each track are built to challenge soundsystems and ignite dancefloors, whether it’s on the livewire rhythms of his jungle indebted track ‘Wicked Dub’, the driving sonic force of the drum and bass styled ‘Different Dub’ or the dubbed out, skank-ready movements of tracks like ‘Earthwalker’ and ‘Indra’. As well as the all-powerful bass pressure, Radikal Guru works with a colourful array of instrumentation, and brings in characterful vocalists YT, Danman and Echo Ranks to provide melodic lead and reggae lyricism on ‘Stay Calm’, ‘Know Yourself’ and ‘Warning!’ respectively. The final result is shining example of modern roots/ reggae-centred music in 2013, executed brilliantly and certain to last the test of time. The Afrosound were produced by Fruko. This is a highly sought after afro-latin Disco Fuentes 45 from Columbian group The Afrosound, covering The Chakachas ‘Fiebre en la Jungla’ with added erotic vocals! This song never appeared on any of their LP’s.

Super rare Cumbia 45 originally released on Disco Fuentes, produced by that man Fruko once again. Afro-Columbian influences are strong here, and typical of the Caribbean coast area in Columbia. The track never made it onto any of their albums.

Two days later they descended to the luminous plain where the joyful town of Valledupar was located. There were cockfights in the patios, accordion music on the street corners, riders on thoroughbred horses, rockets and bells. A pyrotechnical castle was being assembled. Fermina Daza did not even notice the festivities. They stayed in the home of Uncle Lisímaco Sánchez, her mother’s brother, who had come out to receive them on the King’s Highway at the head of a noisy troop of young relatives riding the best-bred horses in the entire province, and they were led through the streets of the town to the accompaniment of exploding fireworks. The house was on the Grand Plaza, next to the colonial church that had been repaired several times, and it seemed more like the main house on a hacienda because of its large, somber rooms and its gallery that faced an orchard of fruit trees and smelled of hot sugarcane juice.

Apparently recorded just before Rappers Delight though Sugarhill Gang beat him to the punch releasing their seminal rap classic just ahead with the rest being history!
Either way, a forgotten gem from the legend well due some summer lovin.
