With the goal of creating music of the future inspired by the past, Nowtro takes direction from 80’s films’ soundtracks, including Aliens, Escape from New York, The Thing, as well as 80’s records he grew up listening to. After listening to both 80’s pop music and more current electronic artists ranging from Prince to Aphex Twin, Nowtro began composing in 2004. 

Currently, he makes music almost strictly using VST synths and effects in attempt to showcase the ingenuity and passion of the people who create these incredible tools as a personal creative outlet. 

After Dark pays homage to the gloomy films he has an immense love for, attempting to recreate the atmosphere of a bleak and not too distant future where civilization is crumbling, governments have turned on their citizens, and where The American Dream has been reduced to surviving a doomed empire. 

After dark -- in this lawless future -- every man fends for himself. Safety is only present in small oases, where resistance is strong, and tyrannical regimes hold no power. 

Nowtro - The Long Long Ago

When two of Canada's most handsome yet mysterious acts, Pat Lok and Bear Mountain met at a large music festival, they discovered a shared love of dark magic and even darker fermented beverages. The result: "Same Hearts", a melancholy house jam that explores the irrelevance of vapid teenage infatuation. The past 12 months saw Pat Lok earn BBC Radio 1 support with reworks of Cashmere Cat and Justin Timberlake, write an official Todd Edwards remix, flip an AlunaGeorge bootleg co-signed by the band, help name a new Pope, discover then lose a formula for a perpetual motion machine, and save 7 kittens from a burning skyscraper - and he promised not to be lazy this year. Expect a slew of original productions in 2014, with Same
Hearts leading things off. Bear Mountain, best known for their singles "Two Step" and "Congo", had a magical year of their own, completing a full U.S. tour with Bloc Party and being tapped by Hot Chip to open at Lollapalooza. Their album will see its UK release this spring on Last Gang Records.

Same Hearts comes with remixes from Oxford, Shelby Grey and Ride the Universe.

Girlfriend Records was created by producer Eric Sferro and is owned by producer John Sagouspe (Johnatron) as an attempt to pay homage to the faded images and analog sounds of his childhood that continue to inspire his creations today. Deeply rooted in the mystique of the 1980's, Girlfriend Records catalog sees electro, funk, disco, and house knocking knees with college rock, shoegaze, post-punk, new wave, and hip-hop to create musical hybrids that are comfortingly nostalgic, yet unmistakably modern. Johnatron and Sferro cull releases from an array of respected producers, each of whom brings a different perspective and approach to create a unified body of work that constantly morphs and evolves. These tracks provoke the urge to dance at times, but also allow the mind to wander to unseen coastlines, tropical sunsets, neon cities, lost highways, and impenetrable forests.
