Well it's about as house as I get anyway. I was very happy to be invited to play the terrace stage at this years awesome Defected Croatia festival and here's the result. I warmed things up for the fantastic Sophie Lloyd. And I reckon I did a pretty good job, she seemed happy to follow me anyway. Which as we know is a job done well if your the warmup act. I actually really enjoyed heading out my comfort zone and playing this type of set, mixing bits of my usual 'Balearic' poolside vibes with more upfront house stylings....

UPDATE: THIS IS THE WINNING MIX! I've been selected to play at Defected Croatia 2019 on the new Terrace Stage and I could not be happier to see my name on the lineup amongst such house music luminaries as Dimitri from Paris, Horse Meat Disco, Joey Negro, Masters at Work, Derrick Carter, Nightmares on Wax, Todd Terry, DJ Gregory, Jellybean Benitez, Ben Westbeech, LNTG, The Shapeshifters, Copyright, Angelo Ferreri, Eli Escobar, David Penn, Yuksek, and the list goes on...

So, I'm attending the Defected Croatia festival in August and received an email from the organizers stating that they were reserving some opening sets for attendees. We just needed to submit an hour-plus mix, appropriate for a daytime set. Squeeee! 

This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play overseas at the 20th anniversary party celebrating my favorite record label. Was it a coincidence that I had just purchased a digital DJ controller a few weeks prior that had me feeling really excited about getting back to DJing? It just felt like the stars were aligning and I couldn't think of a better opportunity to get back in the ring after a long hiatus. 

I crammed for several sleepless nights to get the mix together and tried not to panic when I couldn't figure out how to export it from the new digital setup, but Pioneer tech support came to the rescue and I got the mix submitted just in time!

Cut to a few days later when I received a congratulatory email from the Managing Director of Defected Records stating that I had made the first round cut and was short-listed for the opportunity out of over 300 mixes submitted. My heart was racing as I repeated in my head, "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god..." and tears squeezed out of the corners of my eyes.

So who knows if I'll make the final cut, but I am beyond flattered to be in the running and I can think of no better validation than from the record label that I've held in the highest regard for 20 years. It was just the confidence boost I needed. 

With that: Atlanta, I'm coming for you.
