Coalmine Records is pleased for yet another rerelease of ‘Land of the Crooks,’ the collaborative extended play project from the late Sean Price and Melbourne’s go to producer, M-Phazes. 

The project finds the longtime underground legend lending his distinctive, Brownsville-bred grimy vocals over Phazes’ rich tracks full of dramatic pianos, rich bass-lines, swinging horns and hard drums.

The A-side includes the main passes, comprised of four original tracks with the addition of the Small Professor Remix for ”Murdah Type Thinkin (feat. Guilty Simpson).” For this special edition rerelease, Coalmine has also added the Divided Souls Ent. & DJ Pain 1 Remix of “Land of the Crooks,” which was only previously made available on the label’s remix compilation, ‘Remineded,’ which first dropped back in January of 2015.

The B-side includes the instrumental passes of all of the original tracks, as well as the Small Pro Remix, in addition to the “Crookapella,” which includes various scratch stems taken from the EP, in addition to various isolated drum sounds, sound effects, and acapella of the “Land of the Crooks” single.

Additional features on LOTC include Roc Marciano, Billy Danze (of M.O.P.), Maffew Ragazino, Loudmouf Choir and the Dilated Junky, DJ Babu.

Vinyl is manufactured on a blue and green swirled configuration, limited to just 500 Units, and comes complete with the Andres Guzman designed artwork, inspired by the vintage ‘80s movie, ‘Crocodile Dundee.’

Sean Price was Hip-Hop’s Gray Hulk, a barbarian with the pen, with the sharpest of wits. A true Brooklyn legend...riP!

J-Zone Announces New Solo Album “Fish-n-Grits”

J-Zone, the self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of zero,” may be familiar to you for any one of his six lives: Indie hip-hop’s class clown; an off-kilter producer with his own identifiable style; a frustrated music business casualty who penned a nervy memoir about the life of the working class musician (Root For The Villain); a tongue-in-cheek, encyclopedic music journalist; a late-blooming drummer with a knack for channeling the spirit of classic break beats or a DJ with a deep love for funk 45s.  

On his seventh solo album (and twelfth overall), Fish-n-Grits, J-Zone visits all the stops of an artistic and musical journey that spans well over two decades. Comprised of both limited edition 7” vinyl-only releases (dating back to 2014) and all new material, Fish-n-Grits is equal parts vocal and instrumental. The New York native uses his rap time to pick fights with the delusional state of the music industry, gentrification, the good and bad of nostalgia, police brutality, political correctness and hip-hop’s generational conflicts, but never without his signature brands of humor and sarcasm intact.

As a student of samplers, drummer, multi-instrumentalist and collector of archaic studio gear, Zone was able to chef Fish-n-Grits into his most sonically versatile album to date.  A stew of dirty, funky live drumming, bizarre samples, pulsating percussion and menacing bass that stretches in vibe from a circa 1969 funk instrumental to a twisted, analog interpretation of trap music, Fish-n-Grits has moments inspired by just about everyone. The Meters, Prince Paul, The Incredible Bongo Band, Project Pat, Public Enemy, George Clinton, Kool Keith, Bernard Purdie and Suga Free have all obviously carved out space in Zone’s music library, but the sound remains his own.

J-Zone’s zany alter egos (Chief Chinchilla and Swagmaster Bacon) also get booth time, as do long time collaborators Al-Shid, Prince Paul and Has-Lo. Serving as a bridge between Zone’s 2013 comeback offering (Peter Pan Syndrome) and a forthcoming group project with Prince Paul and Sacha Jenkins (SuperBlack), Fish-n-Grits captures his development as an artist and musician, with occasional nods to the past. 

In the meantime, J-Zone can be found laying down drum tracks (Danger Mouse, Marco Polo, Stretch & Bobbito Documentary, Fresh Dressed, his own drum break series), throwing down live funk 45 sets, repping SuperBlack, making the occasional beat and interviewing unsung drummers for Red Bull Music Academy. 

Today, J-Zone premiered the first single, “Go To Back To Sellin’ Weed,” from Fish-n-Grits with Okayplayer and its quintessential Zone.  “Its 2016, you still looking for a deal, you gotta eat, so do craftsmen who do this shit for real.” With an assist from Prince Paul, Zone paints a vivid picture of the industry and instructs those who are making a mockery of the music to take your Soundcloud down and go back to hand-to-hands.

 In 1992, the year the Wu-Tang Clan shocked the world with Enter The 36 Chambers, Git Beats was huddled in a corner of the Staten Island Ferry with his boombox, bumping his beat creations for the RZA & The Wutang Clan. His encounters as a Staten Island youngster with the figures that put the "forgotten borough" on the rap map comprise just one more not in an accomplished career that has taken him from the birthplace of hip-hop in its heyday through park jams, battles, block parties, record deals, mixtapes, and more vinyl then you ever thought existed. This path has led him all the way to where you're most likely to find him today: behind the mixing board at his studio, with some of the genre's most respected emecees behind the mic. Remember the tale of the tortoise and the hare? Think of that story when you think of Git Beats.

As a kid working summers in his uncle's store in the South Bronx, Git (pronounced "jit", after the original name for "b-boy") knew early on that hip-hop was going to transform his life. But he didn't know it was going to take the globe over until 1983, when the movie Flashdance cracked the breakdancing craze wide open. That was the year Git bought his first record, Afrika Bambaataa's "Renegades of Funk", scrounged the cash to buy a friend's turntable setup, and began his DJ career, a logical transition for a kid who was drumming at age nine. "I spend hours on my drums." says Git. "Drums are everything to me." His love of drums set the foundation for his sound: driving, percussion heavy productions anchored in traditional hip-hip, with an experimental streak. Indeed, after several years of working with his Staten Island click The Street Preachers and trying his luck with different labels - including a stint on Payday Records, the imprint behind classic releases from Jay Z , J Dilla, Mos Def, Jeru, Showbiz & AG and O.C., before it was forced to cease operations - Git finally struck a chord in 2000 with the "Saxxy" 12-inch, a self released white-label that some maintain is the first example of was has come to be known as the "broken-beat" genre.

"Saxxy" proved to be a turning point in Git's career, in 2002 Git and renowned producer Alchemist collaborated on the "Just Be Good To Me" b..w "Raised In The Slums" 12-ince for NYC underground crew Tomorrowz Weaponz, a group Git would go on to score big with the "Dem Boyz" single, which hit number 6 on the Billboard charts in 2006, staying in the top 15 for over three months. Things started snowballing in 2005 when he performed in Central Park alongside DJ Z-Trip at the request of Nike, who featured the performance in the "Keep On Pushin" commercial. Beat duties on "Step Up Wise", a song on Digable Planets femcee Ladybug Mecca's comeback solo album "Trip The Light Fantastic", as well as 2006's Problem Solving Mixtape Vol. 1, Gedit “Rare Groove” EP set the stage for the 2007's "Just One Of Those Days" 12-inch with Ice Water and Raekwon of Wu-Tang Clan. Git turned heads in 2005.

In 2007 Git ventured into movie scoring, providing music for 2008's Sundance Grand Jury prize winner Sangre De Mi Sangre & Staten Island The Moive.




In 2009 Git Beats released his solo album 'Say Cheeze" Feat. Raekwon, Ladybug Mecca, Prince Po, Rockness Monster, Goretex & More. The Source Magazine stated, "This promising NY producer is clearly on the come-up. as evidenced by the work put in on his impressive Say Cheeze! album. ‘Pure sonic bliss.'" Soren Baker 2/09.

In 2010, MURAL, a Graffiti Documentary, Art or Vandalism. Giant Step features Git's 2010 Remix for Wayward Saints "Dream Merchant" Future Vintage LP. The legendary   Osunlade asked Git to remix his hit song, "Butterfly" it was later released in 2011 on Yoruba Records, on 7" Vinyl.

In 2011, The 58's new group starts opening shows for Mac Miller "The Realness" Produced by Git Beats inspired the group to release the 1st single off their album and has received over 67,000 views on youtube. Git also produced "Daydreamin'" from that same album. Yoruba/BBE Records release Git “Imagination” Album witch the first single “If You Just Make Love To Me” hits #1 in UK underground. 

In 2012 Git would hit big when Jenny Craig weight loss used Git “If You Just Make Love To Me” SingleTV commercials. Git release Git Craft ft. Hubbs Video his new artists on his label.

In 2013 Git “Basement Ghost” album is released on New Years feat. Sean Price, AZ, Hubbs, B.White, Beedie, The 58's & more. Git would do 2 remixes on Yoruba Records Bah Samba Presents Shake The Dog - Corazon Roto and Osunlade Camera Shy. Osunlade remixes Git feat. Brooklyn Red “Higher” and puts it on 12” vinyl. Git remixes Mpire Feat. Prodigy of Mobb Deep. First single off piece of mind “Rap”.
In 2014 Git “Times Like This” Video drops on New Years. Git x Hubbs “Piece Of Mind” album due to drop Jan 21st.

One of the world's foremost vinyl collectors, he can also be seen sharing his knowledge in the 2004 documentary Deep Crates. As his number continues to rise, Git remains true to the ethics the South Bronx taught him, always putting quality and substance first, no matter who's on the track and what may be up for grabs. "I try to make concepts with any artist I work with." he says. "If the person I'm working with has a name, that's all good, and I'm feel blessed to be able to work with them But at the end of the day, I have to be proud of the music I make."
