Mic Militia's Bio

Birmingham, Ala. America’s civil rights mecca reshaped the way our nation viewed human rights. The stories that were told there and the activism that took place on its soil moved a nation of people forward.

That legacy lives on with Mic Militia.

Born Michael Allen, Mic was known around his hometown mostly for his artwork. A class project that had him designing album covers soon changed his direction. After designing an album cover, he recorded a demo along with the project. The positive feedback he received encouraged him to pursue music seriously.

Mic's first talent show took place in Birmingham's historic Carver Theater, one of the few places blacks could enjoy shows during segregation. Mic won first place with his song "Down South," surprising hip hop fans with his witty but in-your-face style. 
 
 Inspired by musical trailblazers like Outkast, Ice Cube, Nas, Jay Z, Bob Marley and Jill Scott, Mic aims to restore authenticity back to music. “I want people to know the difference between true artist and the fictional characters that this industry creates,” he said.

His first release, Will Rap 4 Food, is an encouraging record that reflects back on the struggles of his forefathers and the importance of continuing their work. 

Mic Milita is using his music to entertain and inform, keeping Birmingham’s legacy of social change alive.
