While DJ Bionica has been in the electronic music scene for years, she began DJing and creating music to dance to since November 2011. Born and raised near Austin, TX (Live Musical Capital of the World!),she fell in love with Colorado after moving there in 2002 to attend the US Air Force Academy and has been in the Rocky Mountain State ever since.  After an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 2005, Bionica immersed herself in the Colorado music culture embracing friends along the same path and found a loyal family eager to show the power of electronic music beyond hte beats and glow sticks. At only 3 years old, her parents first introduced electronic music by playing records from the synthesizer master and electronica pioneer, Jean Michel Jarre, when his Rendez-Vous album was released and performed live in Houston, TX.  Then there was the rise of the counterhegemonic in the 90's with Daft Punk, DJ Dan, The Crystal Method, The Chemical Brothers, and many others becoming absorbed into more of a mainstream with sponsored events today selling 100,000+ tickets in hours. Of course, before there were grammy’s being dished out and before there were 20 events to check out every week on your facebook calendar, the spirit was always alive and contagious in the minds of a music family. 

Under disapproving head shakes and behind windows blacked out with trash bags, were the warehouse parties, house parties, local venues, and all the original music and beats that you could spin and dance to all night/weekend.or however long it took the 5-0 to figure out where the fuse breakers might be outside of a random building or area.  Before any illegal downloading screaming matches began, before Napster took a nap, and before you could find any remix or original techno mp3 instantly, you danced all night without knowing who the DJ was and what track was throwing down….but it moves you and the rhythm of the crowd designs your setlist.  

From the past until now, I always love and admire all of my friends who DJ, dance, promote, and love life. I learn from each one of you and this is what makes me who I am. Every person I meet through a mutual love for this music teaches me something new and leaves an impression on my own mixes and my life.  

Nikki took me to my first one in Boulder, and I will never forget how the rave culture slapped me in the face first hand as an Air Force cadet.  There's more to all of this then music.  There's the lights, the feeling of bass vibrating your nerve system, the loving and accepting attitude, and of course, all of the people that embody the spirit of our scene.

For me, I DJ because I love the music, dancing, and the family, but I spin because I want to listen to what I'm playing and share it with the dance floor.  I love it whether I'm at a public show, a back yard house party, or blasting away the warehouse work day at Narrrnia.

My love goes out to my husband, best friend, and favorite dance partner in any venue, David.  Thank you for believing in me always and for always being on that same level of fun, success, understanding, and controlled chaos that music and love bring together so beautifully with our energies intertwined.
