PDR010 - B1 - Lloyd Stellar - Modular Planets (Preview)

Gladio Operations inaugurates 2023 with its seventh release titled “Split Machine”, a new series of shared EPs, where in this first episode the producers Jauzas The Shining and Cycloplex go halves on the EP.

The French producer returns to Gladio with three cuts which possess his peculiar and characteristic rugged sound. The EP launches with "Business Machines” and “Isla De Encanto”, two powerful cuts with aggressive and noticeable basslines filled-up with dark textures. Jauzas gifts us a last cut titled “Equation”, a nod to the EBM sound, where he preserves the same darkness as in the previous cuts.

On side B we encounter the Spanish producer Francisco Aguado, who has recently released his first work under the "Cultivated Electronics" label under his new electro alias, Cycloplex. With two cuts titled “Intercepted” and “Acid Machine”, Cycloplex reveals his particular minimalist vision of electro sound in an abstract journey of excellent monotonous rhythms.

Keeping the caliber high on the GF series this week is Leroy Se Meurt. We're big fans of the duo and enjoy their distinctive electro, post-punk, and EBM-infused style. You can find their work on the catalogs of labels such as Gooiland Electro, Lux Rec, and being released tomorrow on November 24th is their Voué à rouiller” album on the mighty Mannequin Records. They've graced the stages of Ombra, Kalabalik, and many others. Their abrasive and hypnotic style is in full display during their 70-minute plus selection for the series. Lock in!

This split release between Frustrated Funk and Indulge Records sees FF head honcho Klen Ovatow reconnecting with Indulge's Oliver Kapp, a link that was established all the way back in the mid/late 90s. Celebrating with a remastered version of Kapp's Piston Rings (ME-01), one of the tracks that kickstarted the Indulge imprint in 1996. I bought a couple of hardware pieces this year, one being the Syntakt - something I had wanted to explore for a while. I hadn't done much, if any, hardware only jams or performances however I had an idea in my head of what I sound I wanted to get from the kit that I had bought. I found the process incredibly freeing and easy to get into a flow state, so I think I'll be doing a lot more like this going forward. 

I kept the recording and mixing process as simple as possible. Syntakt - Drumbrute impact and Helix (for extra fx send, all synced via usb with ableton) into a Yamaha mixing desk, set the levels and just recorded the stereo out, then did a bit of post processing to get this.
