“Walk on By” was written by the legendary songwriting duo of Burt Bacharach and Hal David for Dionne Warwick. Dionne’s 1964 version stands up as probably the best version to date, despite having some big hitters recording covers (Isaac Hayes, The Stranglers, Gloria Gaynor). We have a soft spot for the Gabrielle version in the GU office, but, really, Dionne nailed it. When it comes to samples, however, the Isaac Hayes version smashes Dionne out the park with over 100 artists sampling his version, although you could argue that Doja Cat’s 2023 lift of Dionne (“Paint The Town Red”) and its 1B+ streams trumps all of that. The point of all this? Well, nothing more than to show the song is an evergreen staple for artists and producers for the last 50 years. Adding to this now we have Italian producers Skylin3 and Simon Adams who put a deep house spin on the classic melody. Disco beats and a loopy bassline form the groove, add in some delicious chords and that iconic topline, and you have the kind of super-playable deep house that will entertain from poolside to the club. Originally released in 1995 on the Sharp Boys own ‘Sharp Recordings’, ‘My Love Is Deep’ went on to achieve national chart success on ‘Manifesto’. Championed by the late, great Tony De Vit on the legendary dancefloor of ‘Trade’, Tony was the first DJ to play the ‘Sharp Dub’, after being handed an acetate by the boys.

Amine Edge is a DJ with a keen nose for a killer tune. As a producer, he's delivered classics; as a label owner (with CUFF), he's been supplying DJs with cooking content since 2014. One of his latest discoveries is TAD, a Parisian producer. This year's CUFF release, "Places", is a superb slice of tech house with a bouncy bassline and clever hooks. Despite his relative anonymity within the DJ community, it went straight onto the playlists of Jen Payne and Kevin McKay. Kevin then contacted him for a GU release, and "Be Mine" resulted. Road-tested at Kevin's recent Fire show, this mix of razor-sharp rhythms and bubbling bass smashed the floor at London's premier 6 am party zone. It's a banger.

It’s a fresh debut on Toolroom Trax from Buogo, the Brazilian talent that is quickly rising to stardom. You might’ve already caught his music in the sets of heavy hitters like Marco Carola, Chris Lake, Mau P, Cloonee, and Claptone.

With releases on top-tier labels like Mood Child, Golden Recordings, Nervous, Glasgow Underground, and Sola, plus collabs and remixes with names like Biscits, Bruno Furlan, and Deeper Purpose, Buogo’s been checking off career milestones at a rapid pace.

Now, he’s bringing that same energy to Toolroom Trax with ‘Alive’, a slick blend of minimal/tech house, powered along by a gritty acid bassline, chunky minimal style drums, and a super catchy vocal.

Glasgow Underground was set up in 1997 by Kevin McKay. He began the label releasing his own music and collaborations with friends and other Glasgow-based artists (Omid 16b, Studio Blue, DJ Q, Harri). Through his DJing and work for various music magazines (Muzik, Jockey Slut, Mixmag Update) he met some of his favourite producers of the time (Romanthony, Mateo & Matos, Idjut Boys...) and convinced some of them to join him releasing on GU. In the early 2000s, Kevin met Mylo and set up the Breastfed record label. The global success of "Destroy Rock & Roll" meant Glasgow Underground was put on hold. After leaving the Breastfed label in 2011, Kevin re-started Glasgow Underground and since then the label has gone on to re-invigorate Romanthony's catalogue with remixes from the likes of Dixon, MCDE, Gerd, Andres, Oliver Dollar, Ejeca, Audiojack, Claptone, Christian Nielsen, Supernova, Jimmy Edgar and Waifs & Strays. The label has also introduced producers like Daniel Trim, Brett Gould, Mia Dora and Illyus & Barrientos as well has releasing established & rising stars such as Metodi Hristov, Stefano Ritteri and Sabb.
