The S.O.S. Band’s “Just Be Good To Me” has been a perennial goldmine for dance music sample hunters. Norman Cook and his Beats International cohorts (as “Dub Be Good To Me” in 1990) weren’t first, but they made the biggest early splash. Since then, everyone from 2pac and 50 Cent to Cloonee and Earth’n’Days have had a shot. Italy’s Jude & Frank are the latest to step up, and on this superb house version, they take the Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis song on a rolling ride through loopy house and deliver the kind of peak-time pumper that reminds us of peak Junior Jack. It’s a killer.

Jimmy Rich is an Italian DJ and producer from the north of the country, midway between Genoa and Florence. He is a graduate of Rome’s prestigious music academy - MAT (where such Italian dance legends as MEDUZA, Luca Agneli and Ilario Alicante have taught). On “Stand Aside”, he collaborates with another Italian DJ & producer, Novell (from just outside Naples) and Lagos-based vocalist mohalizer (who you might know from his big streaming collab with WITHU and Albert Breaker, “Alive”). Delicious chords, slow burning bass and delicate percussion deliver the backing while mohalizer’s heartfelt R&B-laced vocal rides on top. It’s a peach.

Draxx (ITA) slides comfortably within the Toolroom Trax roster with more of his signature Latin influenced Tech House that he’s fast become familiar for. He has garnered tons of live support from Vintage Culture, Hot Since 82, Mau P, Nicole Moudaber, Cloonee and many more across all his releases on the likes of Hellbent, Sola, Elrow, Moon Harbour, In Rotation and more, which only highlights his undeniable ability to connect with DJ’s and dancefloors. It’s clear to see that Draxx (ITA) is an artist bubbling under, and it’s been a long time coming that he makes his Toolroom debut, and with ‘Jump’ he does so quite naturally.

Parisian DJ & producer La Fitte delivers a stunner for his debut release on GU. Collaborating with one of our favourite vocalists, Nes Mburu, he provides an Afro-tech monster with a superb breakdown and a killer groove. "Achana" means "Give It Up" in Swahili. Despite this title, La Fitte is giving very little away. His identity is firmly under wraps. He was clear about two things: he makes Afro and house, and his influences are Black Coffee, Solomun and Themba. And if you've heard Themba's electric remix of The Goodmen, you'll know what to expect from this banger!

Viky (IT) - Black Flute [Wh0 Worx]

Albert Breaker follows up his beautiful Afro collab with Michi with another killer Afro rhythm. This time, he ramps up the energy with Kevin McKay on production and Canada’s PRIMO on vocals (who most of you will know from the popular “Mami Colombiana” with Massianello). Guitar stings and a moody bassline set the tone, while punchy percussion and off beat snares drive the Afro energy before PRIMO’s addictive vocal enters the mix. “Ponte pa mi que yo ya estoy pa ti, se me pone freaky con un shot de Hennessy,” he chants, in typical hedonistic style, “En mi casa mami terminamos el party.” If his chorus brings the groove and bravado, the verses are all about the feels, “pensando en ti,” he ends (thinking of you). Together, the effect is sultry. A late night rhythm complete with killer Reggaeton hooks, it’s another Latin winner for Albert Breaker.

Glasgow Underground was set up in 1997 by Kevin McKay. He began the label releasing his own music and collaborations with friends and other Glasgow-based artists (Omid 16b, Studio Blue, DJ Q, Harri). Through his DJing and work for various music magazines (Muzik, Jockey Slut, Mixmag Update) he met some of his favourite producers of the time (Romanthony, Mateo & Matos, Idjut Boys...) and convinced some of them to join him releasing on GU. In the early 2000s, Kevin met Mylo and set up the Breastfed record label. The global success of "Destroy Rock & Roll" meant Glasgow Underground was put on hold. After leaving the Breastfed label in 2011, Kevin re-started Glasgow Underground and since then the label has gone on to re-invigorate Romanthony's catalogue with remixes from the likes of Dixon, MCDE, Gerd, Andres, Oliver Dollar, Ejeca, Audiojack, Claptone, Christian Nielsen, Supernova, Jimmy Edgar and Waifs & Strays. The label has also introduced producers like Daniel Trim, Brett Gould, Mia Dora and Illyus & Barrientos as well has releasing established & rising stars such as Metodi Hristov, Stefano Ritteri and Sabb.
