Earl Jeffers returns to his own Mélange imprint with a massive splash. Two soulful house heaters and an alternative mix. But the first of these dancefloor destroyers features the ever-prolific Kaidi Tatham on flute and guitar. 

If you’re not familiar with Cariff’s Earl Jeffers, there’s an ocean of brilliant music to catch up on. Stacks of releases under his own name, and aliases Chesus and Metabeats, on labels like MCDE, Fat City, and Local Talk. Not forgetting his own label, Mélange Records.

Earl has jumped confidently from house to hip hop, jungle, jazz. library music and more, collaborating on the way with artists such as Byron The Aquarius, Action Bronson, Kamaal Williams and K15. Moreover, as one half of Darkhouse Family with Don Leisure, Earl fuses hip hop production sensibilities with live soul & jazz and yet more notable collaborators. 

Better-known for his keyboard wizardry and highest quality broken jazz productions, don’t sleep on Kaidi Tatham on the flute OR guitar. On both he lays it down with the same finesse and feel for what the song needs. As Earl adds, “pleasure to once again work with one of the best to do it! Mr Kaidi Tatham”. 

Artwork is provided by frequent collaborator and good friend of Earl’s, Ral Duke. Ral has been behind artwork for the likes of Griselda Records (Westside Gunn, Conway, Benny the Butcher), Alchemist, and Ghostface Killah, among many others.

On the flip we find title track “Higher”, featuring vocals from Lloyd Everitt, alongside an alternative mix of the same. ‘Higher’ is released on June 12.

WOLF Music welcomes Amsterdam’s Retromigration to the family with a five-track summertime sizzler, ready-made for hazy parkside sunsets and beach jaunts alike. Hotly tipped and rarely skipped, Retromigration has been lighting up the scene with a string of killer releases over the past 18 months on labels like Healthy Scratch, Ltd, W/Lbl, GLBDOM and Ravanelli Disco Club. Flexin’ that signature chopped and looped style across the EP, the A side is a double dose of house joints via ‘Bloom Street’ and ‘Brining It’, the former a bumpin’ New York nodding cut, the latter an synth heavy roller. Flip it to find a more jazz-tinged affair but with its feet still firmly in the house domain. ‘Free Spirit’ channels a groove that could last forever, with a bass and keys combo that riffs away any creeping anxieties, before Arthur Dudley joins for ‘One Night With Colin’ a late night, smoked out, jazz joint trip. ‘Slick Walkin’' closes out the EP – a lesson in how to make samples dance any which way you want them to, as piano melodies flicker over a double nice bassline and tasty synth touches.

Flumo and ANMA Records join forces once again - this time for a collaborative project between UK based Contours and Yadava. Cosmic Echoes was built over numerous jam sessions fusing live percussion, bass, drum machine, synthesizers and field recordings to create a raw EP full of soul and warmth.

‘Start First Finish Last’ opens up with smooth keys and alluring bass solo. The drum and percussion interplay keeps the up beat rhythm flowing, allowing for the bass to enhance on a Balearic and laid-back dance groove. ‘
‘Udu' takes the vibe on a more beat-driven road, with interlocking Kit and Udu patterns, floating keys and rolling synth arpeggios cutting in and out of the groove. ‘Speaking Through Broken Shells’, gets back on the bass and drum heavy interaction, with lots of influences from UK jazz scene.
 
The B-side starts off with a more familiar house groove. ‘Low Slung’, is a nod to the eyes down moments on the dance floor, with raw hats and shakers swirling around synth swells and heavy synth bass for introspective bliss.
‘Cascades’ swaps over to an atmospheric soundscapes, with plenty of stereo play and rich sound quality, making it easy to get lost in a jungle of flutes, keys and rain-line percussion notes.
 
NIAN’s remix of Cascades, takes the atmosphere up a beat and subs the rolling bass with broken beat rhythm, while Skygaze remix, of the same track, adds liquidity and reshapes the atmospheric sound into a more dance floor orienting mix.

Hustler Trax is a Mexican label that needs no introduction. If you are a lover of House music, then by all means you have heard at least one EP released on this label. Hustler Trax are the "true mafia" of the raw underground House vibes, it's like Larry Flynt, but in House music. 

We've been following Hustler Trax for almost three years now (namely since the release of the Marrakech Sunset EP by Armless Kid) but the label was founded in 2015 under the command of Yael Ruiz @yael_ruiz_g and David Nicol (Taktix @david-nicol)
