Paying tribute to his favourite video game soundtrack ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’, Glenn Astro lays down Zonin’ - an EP made up of two acts, releasing September 23.

‘Hydrocity Zone’ is a level on Sonic The Hedgehog 3, and its theme has become recognized as a pinnacle of chiptune music composed by Howard Drossin.

On ‘Hydro City Zone (Act 1)’ Astro replaces the new jack swing groove of the original version with a steady house beat and expresses the warm, imaginative melodies through his own array of synths. More than just an exercise in nostalgia, it’s a killer track in its own right bursting with playful, psychedelic themes and infectious eccentricity.

‘Hydro City Zone (Act 2)’ is the deeper downtempo flip to the sprightly bounce of the A side, taking a more interpretive approach that simmers down the frenetic pace of Drossin’s composition with a minimal backbeat and a moody bassline broken up with buoyant jazzy keys.

Alongside the digital release, Astro’s Zonin’ EP has been pressed up in an ultra-limited run of just 30 copies, available exclusively through Bandcamp

Hydro City Zone (Act 2)

Today we premiere the hypnotic minimalist brass sounds of "Witold" by kIRk, from their forthcoming album, 'K'.

On ‘K’, Olgierd Dokalski and Paweł Bartnik linked up with Stanisław Matys playing duduk. Matys and Dokalski form the wind & brass section, which is the identity core of the "new" kIRk. Two separate elements, the duduk and the trumpet, play simple themes, sunk in timelessness. Bartnik catches these themes on air and subtly processes them, loops and spreads them in space.

6 lingering duduk (an Armenian woodwind instrument) and trumpet led pieces that oscillate between ambient and ceremonial, almost calling to mind The Last Post at times, and infused with a particular Polish melancholy. Paweł Bartnik catches these themes on air and subtly processes them, loops and spreads them in space. Their new album 'K.' will be released on 3rd December on Requiem Records.
