It was early 2007 when Inigo Kennedy inaugurated Token. Since that Identify Yourself 12” the Belgian label has gone from strength to strength, integrating both Kennedy and Ashley Burchett, aka Ø [Phase], into becoming integral cogs in the Token machine. In between releases by Grovskopa, Oscar Mulero and Go Hiyama, both Ø [Phase] and Inigo Kennedy dominated Token’s output, but it wasn’t until Burchett’s watershed Binary Opposition that Token received the shower of praise it deserved. Following this, label founder Kr!z issued three remix 12”s of that release which, including Token regulars, took in a profound cast of producers to reprocess “Binary Opposition” by the way of Sigha, Peter Van Hoesen, Planetary Assault Systems and Ben Klock. It was here Token stamped their authority on contemporary techno.

Since then Token has grown exponentially, bringing into their fold artists like Xhin, Mark Broom and Rødhåd, while Ctrls, formally one half of Northern Structures, has seen his solo career flourish on Token with the release of five records to date, and he joins Inigo Kennedy and Ø [Phase] as a label stalwart. Additionally this year, Orphx and Ancient Methods debuted their relentless Eschaton collaboration on Token, and Christian Wünsch’s Spherical Coordinates dalliance with Oscar Mulero has gained even more momentum with a second release called Kinematics Equations. Now, seven years after that debut Kennedy record, Token present Aphelion, a nine-track CD and triple vinyl grandstand of new and exclusive material from label regulars and like-minded artists whom Token founder Kr!z specifically commissioned for this milestone release.

The penultimate record before Aphelion was a second Token 12” by Rødhåd, another artist adding to the cultivation of the label’s sound and roster, and for this compilation the Berliner supplies his cosmically inspired “Haumea”. Joining the Dystopian founder on Aphelion are three of the UK’s most influential techno artists: Surgeon, James Ruskin and Luke Slater under his Planetary Assault Systems alias who provide Token with solo material for the first time after previously appearing on the imprint in remix form. Entirely new names to grace the label via Aphelion include Stroboscopic Artefacts founder Lucy, and Blawan and Pariah's Karenn project, while label faithfuls Inigo Kennedy,  Ø [Phase] and Ctrls naturally commit three Token defining productions.

Casting one’s eye over Token’s back catalogue and it’s clear to see the label is a staunch advocate of absolute techno, remaining steadfast in issuing quality material that remains true to classic strands of the genre regardless of its popularity flux. In that respect, Aphelion - a word used to describe the point in orbit when a planet or comet is farthest from the sun - provides a simple analogy that the magnetic force of Token, unfazed by the shadows cast by popular opinion, will proudly shine light on their artists and given styles. 

“We started in an era where our genre was very unpopular,” Kr!z explains. “And in the end that seemed a big advantage for us, because when everyone was giving up, we started our mission.” Regularly hosting label nights in prominent clubs around the world, Token has become a label supported by a wide-ranging body of artists like Âme and Ben Klock to Efdemin, Truss and Ancient Methods. With the label now branching out into album and compilation territory, Token’s duty to techno may not yet be accomplished, but it’s been a job well done.

ALKHEMY’s The Black Hole turns three years-old, and to celebrate, the Brooklyn-based collective has called upon some of the mightiest in the galaxy to create this dance floor-ready compilation. The 27 artists featured on this VA were invited to participate by combining their signature production styles with a Black Hole-inspired twist, to showcase a range of the world’s raviest sounds. Over a third of the participating artists have headlined The Black Hole for their US debut or NY debut, including, Scan 7, Plural (Kukri), Keepsakes, D. Carbone, 138, Axel Picodot and WarinD. Each providing a nostalgic glimpse into their respective journeys through Brooklyn’s favorite galactic rave. The remaining artists have brought forth their own unique sounds, creating an undeniably powerful collection of tracks that will leave a lasting mark on 2019.

The compilation is just as diverse as the dance floors at The Black Hole and as well as the lineups assembled by ALKHEMY. Proudly bringing artists from the US, South America and Europe together. Another example of the power that lays behind unity.

The cover art, which was inspired by the iconic flyers of The Black Hole, who are always put together by Danny Garber, was designed by Detroit legend, Alan Oldham aka DJ T-1000. Being that ALKHEMY’s mission is to highlight diversity in techno, Alan carried on the tradition of The Black Hole’s flyers where people of color and women are showcased in a powerful manner. Keeping the mastering mainly in-house, 80% of the tracks were mastered by ALKHEMY’s Buzzi.

The VA is another huge compilation with all of our favourite artists along with tracks from 4 of our residents and just like last time, we’ll be donating half of the proceeds to Ayrshire Samaritans - a local mental health charity who was greatly appreciative of our last donation and deserves the help more than anything.

This is the second of three parts of the compilation.

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Violent. The Polish artist lands on Swiss imprint Bipolar Disorder for the massive new EP, Almost Nothing, which features three originals plus remixes from some of the biggest names across techno. With previous outings on labels like Dynamic Reflection, Nocturnal Frequencies and more, Violent brings heavy, industrial techno which is infused by metal and finely executed synths for a blistering sound that perfectly captures the name. Shrouded by a haze of occultism, this is right up our alley and today we are thrilled to bring you the Chlär remix of “Paranoia” which adds a high energy mutation to the original.

Glenn’s evolution into the electronica scene came after being influenced by the electro, hip hop and break-dance movement that swept the UK during the 80’s. The sounds and beats from the likes of bambaataa, together with documentaries about the new york Bronx’s Zulu nation and movies like beat street soon isolated Glenn from the mainstream music his friend’s was listening too at the time. After some years later in 92 Glenn relocating to Sweden where he started dj-ing at a local radio station in Helsingborg south Sweden playing &amp; exposing various forms of techno &amp; house, at the end of 92 he rented some space at the back end of a second-hand record shop where he had a small underground outlet selling to local and national djs and collectors. Later on that same year saw the birth to his own label Called Planet Rhythm the name of which was inspired by the series of mix tapes he use to make from his bedroom dj sessions called planetary rhythms. The label had one purpose and that was to expose the production talents of Swedish artists and at the beginning of 93 Glenn talked about his ideas to a producer called Cari Lekebusch who he had met via a dj in Stockholm who he used to sell records to. Cari agreed to do the first 2 releases for the label And In 94 Glenn relocated to the capital Stockholm to try and expand both the record shop and the label, after a few months a place was found to set up a firm base. Not only was it now a fully independent record shop and record label but it also became home to Cari Lekebusch’s Hybrid Productions &amp; the Hybrid Studio. After a very short time Glenn needed more help in the shop and also new artists for the label. Cari had a few underground producer friends who he had met via various friends and on various parties in and around Stockholm, he explained Planet Rhythm’s concept to them and soon demos where arriving. Adam Beyer, Jesper Dahlbaek (aka Lenk) Thomas Krome, &amp; Fredrik Almqvist (aka RND Technologies) all started producing for Planet Rhythm and the shop soon became a vital hub, meeting point and outlet for anyone and anything involved in the scene, its popularity and its importance as a solid base for anything electronic was soon apparent when it was nominated together with caris hybrid production for the Swedish entertainment prize awards. After a number of releases a remix series for the label was started which broke out from the Swedish circle and started using international artists like The Advent &amp; Cristian Vogel. This came about not in an attempt to get noticed on an international scale but was infact a request by the likes of Cisco himself who liked what the label was releasing. At that time Cisco was the co producer of some of the most respected outputs being released like CJ Bolland's 4th sign so to Glenn a bigger compliment couldn’t have been made and a big opportunity like this could not be missed. After a steady rise in popularity both nationally and internationally the problem for expansion was very clear, “distribution and distributors”. In 95 Glenn relocated to England where he was to concentrate more on the distribution network but before doing so set up Planet Rhythm UK that was to provide a more selection of artists from around the world but still hold a Swedish Connection.






Planet Rhythm UK still released many of its Swedish producers like Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebush, Jesper Dahlbaek, Thomas Krome &amp; Fredrik almqvist but also under different names, such as Cari as Shapechanger and Fredrik as 40ft Puma. Planet Rhythm UK wanted to reflect a more Global Mixture of artists and released the early works of artists Like: Gaetek, Umek, Andrei Morant as well as Glenn himself, It also started breaking down the gender barriers by releasing work by female producers such as Jana Clemen (aka Abstract Soul). Many others have found their way onto Planet Rhythm UK like Headroom, Slobodan, Ignition Technician, Lars Klein and Robert Natus just to mention a few. In 96 Planet Rhythm started its first sub-label called Template that featured Glenn’s work as ventilator as well as releasing music from artists such as Lash (aka Gaetek), Jack Mackrel, Postor (aka Savinto), Ind-Ex, Tuomas Rantanen &amp; Render (aka headroom). While dj-ing at a party in Slovenia Glenn met up with producer Mike Humphries and realized they had similar music &amp; production tastes &amp; set up Punish Records Which they use to release most of there own productions. The raw edgy techno it was releasing soon got noticed by the likes of dj rush and Dave Clarke just to mention a few, and with the classic punish 4 release “Aural exciter” the label truly got accepted as one of the great uk techno labels. Intact the label went on to be the outlet for Glenn’s debut album entitled “nightshift” Which was true to the raw techno vibe the label had become famous for. In January 99 Glenn Set up Compound which is dedicated to getting back to the early values of Planet Rhythm and searching for tomorrow's producers. This label was a huge hit with the hard driving phat clubbing techno sound that engulfed the new millennium and was soon seeing a dedicated following from top djs on the techno circuit. In the winter of 2001 Heroes was engineered and brought to life and at present is planned to be the outlet for production souly from Glenn himself. Concentrating mainly on forward driving hard edged electronic funk Glenn sets out to output concept releases that will take on imaginative vinyl designs along with special free insert media and promotion for the train spotters and collectors. After the instant success of heroes Glenn set up the Heroes X Series which is remixes of the original heroes tracks and to date has featured exclusive remixes from Glenn himself and also from today's pioneering producers such as Chris McCormack, Ignition Technician, Mike Humphries, Alexander Kowalski, Lars Klein, Michael Burkat, The Anxious and Patrick Skoog. In mid 2005 the trilogy was completed when Glenn after 10 years teamed up again with Cari but this time to release the first of the Heroes international series. During late 2005 to late 2007 Glenn took time out to contemplate new horizons one of which saw him return in 2008 with the revamped compound label and his “phoenix ep”, also in this year Glenn teamed up with Gayle San on her Equator label, which saw not only solo projects evolve but also Studio collaborations as well as remixes from gayles back catalog on other labels.






2010 sees many exciting things happening, one of which includes the construction of the brand new Rhythm Lab studio which is due for completion in the 1st week of February. Another thing soon to go live in 2010 is Glenn’s new webpage that will see him make available an exclusive library of beats, rhythms, sounds and back catalog from Heroes, Punish, Compound and more. Last but not least see's the relaunch of the infamous Heroes &amp; Punish record labels which set the standard for techno during the early to mid 2000 years. An intense workaholic Glenn is hard at work creating tunes both for his own label and for others and is once again taking bookings for his energetic live performances which has seen him scour the globe with his compact live rig
