While all of us are living the quarantine life, Good Room has asked friends and residents to share mixes for our Solitude Series so you can dance on your own. The first mix comes from Justin Strauss & Billy Caldwell, aka Love Tempo. Justin and Billy have been residents at the club since day one. Their parties in the Bad Room are non-stop fun, bringing together everything from new wave, techno and house to cosmic, acid and disco. Both legends of the scene, Justin came up in the 1980s playing around NYC like Mudd Club, Tunnel, Limelight and Area. BillyB made his name in Manchester at clubs like HOME, Hacienda & Paradise Factory.

This mix was recorded live when Justin & Billy opened for New Order at at the Roseland Ballroom in 2012.

Facets came to New York by the way of London and Belgrade. He has a passion for all things leftfield, electro, techno, acid, balearic and beyond. Facets is the man behind Samo Records label and Samo Nights party which explores the darker, moodier side of electronic music. He has also released on Calypso Records, Deep House Amsterdam, 44.100hz Social Club and more. Facets is a core member of glitterballnyc, a website showcasing electronic music in NYC. Here's what he had to say about the mix;

"For some time I’ve been thinking of making a mix of only New Beat records. For this mix, the tracks were released between '86 and '91 (some original versions, some modified by myself and other producers). The first half is the slower stomping stuff, then it gets faster and trancier in the second part :) "

A word from Juan:
“I played the opening night of Good Room some time in 2014, and the final Saturday the club was open, March 7th, before this Coronavirus pandemic struck. In those years, it has served as my home base in two important ways. One is as a source of community. When I’m not on the road, I am usually there on the weekend seeing friends and my favorite DJ’s, and on arrival it usually takes me a while to get settled as I am warmly greeted by everyone from the person working the door to the owner, most of whom I consider friends. It’s a home away from home, and I think that is generally the vibe of the club. The second is the way Good Room, and Josh Houtkin, the booker and one half (along with the legendary Dave P.) of Fixed, in particular have supported me artistically over the years. Throughout the natural peaks and valleys of my career, Good Room, with Josh’s support, has been a reliable place for me to play, serving to both support me financially and more importantly artistically. It’s a place I can stretch out, try out new things to take on the road, take more chances, and where there is an audience that generally knows and trusts me. This is the primary importance of these medium sized venues. They are a breeding ground for the kinds of parties and DJ’ing that are the life-force of our music scene. It’s just big enough to support bringing in international favorites like Jennifer Cardini, Roman Flugel, John Talabot, and Martyn, among many others. But small enough to retain a purity of spirit, a sprit that is about the music and the shared sense of community that allows for transcendence. That is my first hand perspective, anyway, as someone involved from the beginning, and I am honored to be playing this first live stream broadcast in support of Good Room.”

@SolarSF and @Mozhgan have been kind enough to let us upload their barnstormer of a set from The Island, and by gum this one’s a humdinger. 

For those of you who live under rocks, Solar and Mozhgan popped over from San Francisco to give Bristol’s best venue a proper talking to - and a proper talking to they indeed gave it. The duo took us through selections of punk-laced EBM, futurist minimal synth, headbang techno and old-school acid drivers, solidifying their status as our favourite Bay Area couple! 

As a mix, it is unpredictable, obscure and diverse, but without meandering from a central theme of dark, moody, fun-as-fuck party slammers (DJ Bigos hit us up) - we feel incredibly blessed to have been able to host these two and add this to our humble little series.

Not to mention preserving one of our favourite parties, and some fond memories with 2 of our favourite guests!

Fabrizio Mammarella is an Italian selector, producer and label owner among many other things in the world of Music.
Boasting a discography that includes dozens of clubbing anthems, remixes, as well as successful collaborations with Lauer (as Black Spuma), Rodion, and Clap Rules; he is also the “one man band” in Telespazio, an infamous side project focusing more on experimental music.

Since his first release in 2004, Fabrizio has been constantly delivering hits for labels such as DFA, Permanent Vacation, Correspondant, Les Disques De La Mort, Future Boogie and his own imprint Slow Motion Music / Wrong Era records, leading the Italian Dance Wave movement for over ten years.
Fabrizio is also the head behind Emet, a record label centred on limited special releases crawling in the realm of weirdo electronic music, especially cut for the quirkiest and demanding dancefloors.

Fabrizio has played and hosted label nights at some of the best clubs and festivals around the globe, with regular nights in Berlin and his home country of Italy. He is definitely not moving in slow motion

Steve Cass and Justin Wilson joined forces over 25 years ago when they founded No Strings Attached, which by now is one of Scotland’s longest running underground club nights.
The late and great Andrew Weatherall regularly played NSA and best described it as “a proper acid house party”. Over the years they’ve welcomed a plethora of outstanding artists to their intimate, dark, basement parties as well as to notable Edinburgh clubs such as Sneaky Pete’s and The Mash House.

Steve and Justin whipped up a whopping mix oozing with animated post-punk electroid rhythms. Their spot on selections reflect their refined NSA taste and bring you heaps of forthcoming material and brand new tunes that you would otherwise be hearing this summer at your favourite dance floors and festivals.
