An artist who exemplifies the beloved Glitterbox sound, The Shapeshifters aka Simon Marlin returns to the label with ‘Beautiful Day’ featuring vocals from daughter of Soulstress Nina Whitaker, Liisi Lafontaine. Since his acclaimed Glitterbox LP ‘Let Loose’ and subsequent Deluxe edition, which saw the UK household name work with luminaries Billy Porter, Joss Stone, Teni Tinks and CHIC’s Kimberly Davis, Simon has remained one of the world’s most in-demand disco authorities. Now back in the studio after a relentless touring schedule, which saw him ring in the new year at Glitterbox’s Wembley takeover in 2024, Simon foregoes the signature disco strings of recent hits to make way for a heavier and progressive sound, rooted in memories formed at Glitterbox’s Hï Ibiza party and Defected Croatia. This comeback release, ‘Beautiful Day’ features Liisi Lafontaine, an established vocalist with previous credits in Moulin Rouge and Dreamgirls, now recording dance music with the genre’s best; Liisi’s buttery smooth vocals add a cool, downtown vibe to the understated yet powerful production of ‘Beautiful Day’, signalling good club vibes only for summer 2024.

Another proper classic from the vaults of Peppermint Jam. „Catch The Beat“ probably one of the most iconic and influential Hip Hop tracks next to Rappers Delight and The Message, having been sampled a trillion times. Good label mate Dimitri From Paris did a fantastic job updating Stetsasonics „Talkin´All The Jazz“  so he and Mousse T. thought „ Let´s do this again!“ and they did! An uptempo rework of the original using a full live band is now available with a brand new edit.

Glitterbox’s own Melvo Baptiste returns to the label with ‘Did You Pray Today?’, featuring vocals from Annette Bowen. Following the success of his gospel-tinged collaboration with Dames Brown, ‘Sweat’, Melvo Baptiste is back to develop his joyful sound - this time spotlighting the vocal talents of Annette Bowen. The two previously collaborated on the label in 2022, releasing ‘Gonna Be Alright’ alongside Chicago legend Jamie 3:26 to critical and commercial acclaim. ‘Did You Pray Today?’ is a take on the Lisa Taylor original from 1992, a unique, upbeat addition to the London tastemaker’s diverse catalogue of records. As the track builds in ecstasy, Annette’s powerful yet crystal clear voice is supported by choral ad libs and Melvo’s cool, underground production touches.

Glitterbox Radio Show 388 Hosted by Melvo Baptiste

The mini-album was recorded in Toronto over the past year and was inspired by many small things, like afterparty mornings in Berlin ("In Berlin Alone") or naive fantasies such as fighting a fleet of drones ("Shooting Down Drones"). Floating between ambient sketches and lo-fi indie pop songs, the album feels more like a collection of notes on an iPhone—written by someone in love, high, or lost (or maybe all at once).

Bronx-born singer-songwriter Fiorious made his anticipated return to Glitterbox with a stunning cover of Aly-Us’ ‘Follow Me’, bringing a hopeful message to the world, encouraging one and all to use their collective power to show up for each other. Now comes two fresh remixes landing from the States. Up first, Harry Romero cooks up a club-ready mix nodding to the track’s Jersey roots, delivering an uplifting bassline, sumptuous builds and thunderous drops throughout. Waajeed comes through on the package with his BLM remix, reinvigorating the track’s meaningful call-to-action with an unmistakable Detroit flair; an urgent record flipping between a soft bassline, rhythmic percussion and futuristic synths from beginning to end. Both artists carry through the message of ‘Follow Me’ fashioned perfectly for 2020 house heads.
