Providing a taste of what’s to come from the upcoming album Glitterbox – Love Is The Message, this sampler serves up the very best dancefloor-filling beats, balancing classic with contemporary across five glittering tracks. 

Up first is a sublime remix of Soul Rebels ‘I’ll Be Good’. Soul Rebels covered the Rene & Angela electro-funk classic back in 2005, and this brand new remix is the first of two EP exclusives from the current king of disco re-edits, Dr Packer. Already a familiar name on the Glitterbox Recordings imprint, Dr Packer specialises in creating glorious upbeat re-works of much-loved favourites. Next up is his brand new remix of King Unique’s anthem ‘Love Is What You Need (Look Ahead)’. Another instant classic, it employs a warm, relaxed beat to give that unforgettable vocal more of a disco vibe.

The third exclusive on the EP, Luke Solomon & Terry Grant’s ‘Disco Revision’ of the seminal ‘Wonky Bassline Disco Banger’ reimagines the charmingly bonkers track, smoothing over some of the wonkiest bits but maintaining the disco fever by amping up the shuddering strings. 

Holding down the “classic” end of proceedings is Kings Of Tomorrow with ‘Tear It Up’, featuring the heavenly voice of Julie McKnight. Glitterbox is all about those euphoric ‘hands-the-air’ moments, which this track has endlessly. Rounding off this outstanding EP with an irresistible groove, Mike Dunn’s re-work of Gershon Jackson’s ‘Love Desire’ is a certified dancefloor pleaser. If you can’t get enough, there’s plenty more where that came from on Love Is The Message.

Kings Of Tomorrow 'Tear It Up'

The Shapeshifters return to Glitterbox with their stunning dancefloor belter ‘Try My Love (On For Size)’, this time along with a classic disco remix by Dr Packer. Teni Tinks, a session vocalist and arranger who has worked with the likes of Rudimental, Quincy Jones and The Jacksons, lays down fresh vocals on the Sharon Redd anthem from 1980, now laden with fresh horns, strings and arrangement on the Club Mix. The king of disco re-edits Dr Packer slows the composition down, highlighting the impressive instrumental with filtered vocals beneath for a more classic sounding version of this wonderfully life-affirming record.

When you hear a track as good as ‘No Price’, it is unsurprising to find out it was made by one of America’s most established music producers. Arthur Baker, who has set out to get dancefloors moving since the 1970s, has collaborated with musicians such as New Order, Afrika Bambaataa and the Pet Shop Boys, and also works under the alias Slam Dunk’d. With vocals from award-winning Canadians Chromeo, the collaboration between them and Slam Dunk’d made for an extra special Glitterbox release. Now Dr Packer steps up to remixing duties of this self-assured party starter, as the Australian disco maestro lends his bodacious disco-infused capabilities to the record. Up next, burgeoning artist Demi Riquisimo delivers a heavier club cut, stripping back the vocal and laying down the tech effects. This is another red-hot delivery from the Glitterbox camp set to get dancefloors moving.

A new version for 2019 from Seamus Haji, an artist who played a key role in the significance of the original record, makes it an ideal fit for the label’s strutting nu-disco style. After soaring to the top of the UK charts with his remix of the Booty Luv version, Seamus’ latest disco update of ‘Boogie 2nite’ has retained the timeless energy of the track while reviving it for Glitterbox dancefloors and beyond. The release also features Australian disco legend Dr Packer’s groove-laden remix, rounding off with the gloriously funky Seamus Haji & Blackhill Mix.
