Imitation can be the sincerest form of flattery. That’s how we felt initially when Michel Baumann ― a.k.a. Soulphiction ― used our sample from a demo we sent him over a year ago, but when he rereleased his own version under his name we were shocked to say the least. 

A part of the beauty involved with sample-based music is re-contextualizing sounds to make a new statement, and in that vein, juxtaposition and contrast make a mysterious or solid sample that much more meaningful, especially when it’s the first time used by a producer. Like a virgin, we never forget our first time, and Michel took that away from us by fucking us.

When it comes to Discrete’s internationally supported house classic ‘Mind And Body’, we maintain the position that timeless art speaks for itself and that bad things happen to bad people.

In a similar incident between Gene Siewing and another producer *cough, cough* Crom, Gene reminds us that “Your worst enemy is your best teacher”, and it’s from this experience we’ve learned to never do business with people with ulterior motives.

The rest of the EP, however less controversial, is grade A quality production you can trust from your favourite DJ, Discrete. Rare-groovin’ samples and Disco allusions throughout ‘To Keep You’ could probably crack a smile on the most cynical of DJ’s expressions, and maybe even help get them lucky, if you know what we mean.

There’s a buzz in the air when it comes to ‘Our Love’, or at least that’s how we feel when it’s playing at a party and our dancing friends dilated pupils connect with our own. Bouncy kick drums lift us up to that higher state of consciousness, where soft, soothing whispers only a woman can pronounce reminds us how love is meant to be shared.

To finish off the EP, Discrete blesses us with a more experimental outro. The mere two samples weaving in and out bring us back to the idea of how new meaning can be introduced by simple contrast.

Bringing his magnetic deep touch to Fool's Paradise is the hugely talented French producer, Sebb Junior, with 'Colors'. Centred around one of Sebb's signature cut-up style vocal hooks, 'Colors' is a punchy hypnotic groover dressed with warm bubbling synth melodies that flow over a deep effervescent bassline, bringing all the right feels to the dance floor. French artist based in Spain, Sebb Junior, is one of the most hard-working House music DJs and producers of the moment. He's released hundreds of singles, EP's and remixes on widely respected labels like Large Music, Madhouse Records, Nervous Records, Milk & Sugar, Quantize Records, Let There Be House and many more. Into music since the early 90s with his roots into Hip Hop culture, Sebb takes influences from a vast eclectic range of sounds, from Soul, Jazz through to Funk and RnB, carefully and respectfully using these styles to craft a unique and refreshing take on sample based House Music. A versatile and well nuanced artist, Sebb Junior has also produced 2 critically acclaimed albums 'Rewind' on Papa Records and 'Hold On' on Sub Urban Music. In 2018, feeling the need for more independence and freedom, Sebb launched his own label (vinyl and digital) La Vie D'Artiste Music.
