Funky Flavor Presents (This is Breakbeat) Vol. 5 - 21paths

They are Jake McCaffery and Aaron King, better known as the Breakspoll Award-winning duo Se7en Deadly Breaks, and we're absolutely thrilled to have them in The Armory this week! Press play. Get down. 

Aaron & Jake joined forces back in 2007 to form Se7en Deadly Breaks as they both had a passion for underground music and an even bigger passion to be the ones behind the decks.

Whilst the pair was making there mark in and around Berkshire they also had shows on two of the biggest pirate radio stations in London and the west London area PointBlank FM & Flex FM which took the attention of some well known names in the scene including Deekline & Wizard, Pure SX, Pyramid, Jigga Flo, Sneaky D, CodeBreaker and Ben & Lex to name a few.

Se7en Deadly Breaks have quickly became a well known name because of the party's and event's they have played & also Radio but more importantly because of the music selection they play and the way they both have similar mixing styles behind the decks with their scratching, edits, loops and the way they switch up into genres they know how to rock a party!

Se7en Deadly Breaks have been hitting big club events in London which have seen them play along side there idols in the Breakbeat world such as Deekline, Stanton Warriors, Pyramid, Ed Solo, High Rankin, Hostage & Jurrasik to name a few. They have also Headlined the 2012 Hot Cakes Break Beach Festival in Spain and are set on course to continue growing strong as DJ's & two best friends loving what they do and the people they meet on this musical journey they are on.

Now with the lads 1st release on Deekline's BOOTY BREAKS label in November 2012 "Superman" hitting NUMBER ONE in the TOP 100 BREAKS CHART on BEATPORT they are set for a big future. 

And now in the new year of 2013 they won the award of Breakthrough DJ at the 12th International Breakbeat Awards and have the full support from some huge names in the scene including, Deekline, Stanton Warriors, Lady Waks, Ben & Lex, Pyramid, Ed 209.

After taking the name DJ Hero in 1996, Hero began his career as a DJ, playing everything from house, to breaks, to trance, and just about everything in between. After a few years of figuring out what was his sound, DJ Hero focused on breaks. After playing up and down the east coast, holding residencies in Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, and playing countless gigs around the greater south east, Hero decided it was time to change his focus to producing his own music.

In 2000, DJ Hero started Solitude Studios, locked himself behind closed doors, studied, read, and practiced, producing whatever came to his mind. After several years of teaching himself the ins and outs of engineering, Hero hooked up with Huda Hudia, founder of Kaleidoscope Music, where he engineered and produced many releases to come from Kaleidoscope Music. In 2008, DJ Hero moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Denver, Colorado where he hooked up with DJ Vanish, and began Velcro City Records, and expanded the services of Solitude Studios to artist development, audio engineering, sound design, and mixing and mastering. Together, Hero and Vanish, work hard to provide quality dance music to the scene they love so much.

In 2010, DJ Hero was given tier one artist status on www.beatport.com, the largest distributor of digital dance music in the world, placing him in the top 20% of artist globally. 2011 proved to be a good year as DJ Hero left Velcro City Records to team up with Illeven Eleven. Over the years, DJ Hero has worked with Huda Hudia, DJ Volume, Keith Mackenzie, Calvertron, Lazy Rich, Simply Jeff, Dave London, DJ Fixx, Messinian, Whiskey Pete, Baby Anne, DJ Icey, and many more.

Today, Hero calls Ground Level Records his home, having released two full length albums, and released countless chart topping tracks. Hero focuses on producing party breaks, music that he considers fun for any dance floor. He hopes to be an influence and teacher for all those looking to find love in the music he’s come to be so close to.

The Armory Podcast has been woefully short on female artists, an oversight we intend to correct beginning with this week’s special guest. In her hometown of Orlando and across North America they call her “The Bass Queen”. She's an accomplished DJ and producer and runs her own label, “Bad Baby”. Baby Anne aka "The Bass Queen" has blazed a Trail across North America and Beyond with her DJ sets and Original Productions. Her signature recipe is a delicious fusion of high energy Electro Breaks and Miami Bass seasoned with funky beats and driving bass lines. Her musical influences range from Miami Bass stalwarts Dynamix II and AfroRican, to overseas tunes by Kraftwerk & 808 State, from statesides DJ Icey and Information Society to a host of Funky Freestyle records from back in the day!

Baby Anne is known not only as a DJ but also a recording artist, having dropped loads of tracks on her own Bad Baby record label and DJ Icey's Zone Records Imprint as well as other labels. Her latest single "Baby Vicious", on Bad Baby is rocking dance floors across the country. Baby Anne has pounded out 14 Mix Cds, all of which have charted on the Billboard Soundscan Electronic Top 50 album chart from 1999's "BassQueen in the Mix" to last year's  release, "Beauty of The Beats".   Baby Anne is currently on tour promoting her latest CD release, "Disturbing the Beats".

DJ Ark hails from Tampa, FL and is signed to Zone Records & illeven eleven. Ark has been a consistent presence within the Florida breaks scene for some time. Influenced highly by the works of Icey, Ark is constantly on the lookout throughout all genres of electronic music for the best tracks to add more bounce to. DJ Arks passion for music runs extremely deep and it’s that passion that has always allowed him to be ahead of the game. His obsessive dedication to keep with the times really shows in his productions and live sets. Never one to let a big track pass him by, you really are in for a show when he's on the decks. His greatest love is to bring the energy to the dance floor and take crowds on a journey. He is known to have a great stage presence and is usually dancing, smiling and singing right along with you.
