What’s 2 m tall, lives Behind the Iron Curtain, has 1605 reasons to run an awesome label, and flies? Meet UMEK, a techno legend from Slovenia.

UMEK is personally responsible for kickstarting the electronic music scene in his home country by first organizing illegal raves and then becoming one of Slovenia’s most wanted export products and the number one music ambassador to the whole world.

And he does fly! Around 100 times per year, visiting almost every continent each year. His gig diary ranges from dark underground clubs in Berlin to massive techno stages at the world’s most renowned festivals. 

Apart from making his name in the DJ booth, he’s also a tireless producer. He mostly releases on his own imprint 1605, and most of his tracks end up on the very top of Beatport’s charts. After more than 25 years as a professional musician, he decided to use his experience and skills in the entrepreneurial world. Together with his managers, he founded a music-tech startup Viberate (www.viberate.com), where they are building the world’s greatest music platform.

The Gnome is the alias of Tony D'Oporto, a native of Southern California now based in Seattle. Tony has been at the forefront of electronic music culture since the early 1990's where he has worked in a variety of styles that include Trance, Ambient and Down Tempo backed by countless performances throughout North America.

Dubmission Records have blazed a trail of warped woofers since the mid 90’s, when they launched with a trio of bass heavy dubwise compilations. 

In 1996, they kicked off with the Mashing Up Creation album, which featured tracks by Doof, Adelphi and http://soundcloud.com/andyguthrie amongst others. It was reviewed favourably by The Sunday Times, DJ and Sleaze Nation – the latter describing it as “carrying on where original dub hijackers The Orb left off!” It was swiftly followed by Dubbed On Planet Skunk, with stand out tracks from http://soundcloud.com/zion-train, Quirk and Alpha & Omega. The third instalment took 2 years to put together – More Bass Than Space was a double album which represented every spectrum of the modern dub scene, with tunes from artists as diverse as Hallucinogen, http://soundcloud.com/woob, http://soundcloud.com/solarquest, Singers&Players and Tribal Drift. It sold well all over the world, and led to tours of Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and USA.

From 2001-5, the Dubmission crew concentrated more on artist management and event promotion than releasing records. However after hearing Ape to Angel by http://soundcloud.com/pitchblacknz, they decided to bring Dubmission out of “retirement”, as it represented everything and more that the label had tried to achieve.  

Since then the label has gone from strength to strength, with several more releases from http://soundcloud.com/pitchblacknz (Frequencies Fall, Rude Mechanicals, Rhythm, Sound & Movement plus their first two albums, Futureproof and Electronomicon), as well as Seen, Heard and Felt by http://soundcloud.com/international-observer, Make Animals Happy by http://soundcloud.com/warptechnique, Third Ear Audio’s Third Ear Audio and Paddy Free’s Karekare. The crew has also found time to compile two smoky collections for the Japanese label, Wakyo: On A Dubmission Volumes One and Two.

In 2010, to celebrate 15 years of business, they released 15 titles, including new EPs by http://soundcloud.com/pitchblacknz, http://soundcloud.com/warptechnique, Doof and Green Monitor, plus re-issued classic but deleted albums by Bluey, Stress Assassin and Bill&Ben, as well as playing 15 shows around the world and uploading 15 DJ mixes of Dubmission music to download.

The last few years have seen EPs released by http://soundcloud.com/akashaexperience, http://soundcloud.com/quanta-uk and http://soundcloud.com/erssound., two albums and an EP by http://soundcloud.com/deepfrieddub, a collection of http://soundcloud.com/pitchblacknz remixes of other artists and a new compilation series, The Next Mission, designed to showcase up and coming talent.

Never afraid to get funky across genres Scott Joseph grew up with a wide range of eclectic musical influences through living in 8 countries and travelling to party in many more. Born in Vienna and drumming since a child Scott began playing live percussion at dance music parties as a teenager in Germany.  While studying Business Management in London during the 90s he began DJing with vinyl and soon after began mixing in effects processors and live drumming. Scott has preformed at many events and clubs in the UK, Malaysia, Australia, Vietnam and around Indonesia.  Between 2002-2003 he produced and hosted his own live radio show in Australia.

Through professional control of the mixing desk and effects processors Scott adds his own colors, textures and feeling to the music while incorporating live percussion using various ethnic drums and electronic drum pads.  This weaves an expressive canvas of sound that when accompanied by intelligent use of venue lighting drives the dance-floor with bass and thrilling drum riffs.  Live drumming allows Scott to accent and develop the journey of his sets and by using an iPad he is able to add further specialized effects and flourishes. Whether just DJing or playing with percussion the essence of his art is a live performance that is by its very nature physical and unique.

As well as being an accomplished musician and DJ Scott has been involved in the events industry in diverse places such as Bali, Melbourne, London, The Gili Islands and across Malaysia.  This represents a broad range of industry experience that incorporates event and DJ programming, set and prop production, logistics, finances, traditional media and savvy online marketing techniques.
