Elevenses [Global Warming - out May 28]

Andy Bell (RIDE) under his GLOK alter ego has delivered a stunning rework of the gorgeous title track taken from the second album by ambient-techno group Herrmann Kristoffersen. Andy has tapped deep into the dub at the heart of the original, with echoes of John Carpenter's soundtracks and his own extended electronic excursions under the GLOK moniker.

Edinburgh enigma Eyes of Others steps out of the woods to present his long-length debut « Elevenses » on Global Warming Records. With a sound once described as « post-pub, couldn’t get in the club music », Eyes of Others sonic style is a ghostly mix of leftfield pop and electronic dub. His melancholic productions are a reminder of a failed relationship whilst doing the dishes, celestial and conversational in equal measure. Putting pleasure first always, picking up the pieces thereafter - may this record be your lover and strife.

But Eyes of Others is not taking his first steps here. Previous releases on Edinburgh’s ‘Paradise Palms’ Records saw remixes from the late legend Andrew Weatherall and plays on BBC 6 Music help establish his signature sound. Elevenses now renders a coming of age moment as it grooves and meanders through everyday subjects in a light-hearted yet cutting fashion. Stuart Evans of Green Door Studio puts the finishing touches on the productions using his mixing techniques to elevate the tracks to a dubby space of their own.

The release is visually scored by the Manchester-based creative studio DR.ME, using original Eyes of Others footage from a remote island in the Scottish Hebrides. The record will be released as a K7 tape including 2 exclusive tracks + a limited edition hand-printed t-shirt + an original print booklet.

Global Warming Records is run by Franco-British producer and talent seeker Malcolm, who imagines and shapes each project hand in hand with his artists. Elevenses will be the label’s 15th release.

For the 15th release on the now London-based imprint, Global Warming Records welcome Edinburgh musician and producer Eyes of Others to their ever-growing family. 'Elevenses' is his debut long player—following a trio of EPs for dive bar-turned-record shop and label Paradise Palms—and builds on his signature brand of "post-pub, couldn't get in the club" music.

A heady mix of leftfield pop, electronic dub and new wave goodness, the LP flaunts Eyes of Others songwriting ability, matching melancholic yet catchy hooks with conversational lyricism that touches on themes of every day happenings, failed relationships and doing the dishes.

I dream of you so quietly. Your likeness is not visible, the wind obscures your silhouette. You create spirals and don't know why. A burning star whirling in an orbit of its own. Each today is yesterday's tomorrow, which is now. And now is all I have, in my dream, so quietly… Four new tracks on RIO, catalogue number 006. Conducted, dreamed, in- and exhaled by @freybenedikt and @tohinc , featuring cosmic whisper and aerospace vocoder poetry by Lisa Toh, Tyler Pope, Lukas Diller and Niklas Wandt. Tripping music, dancing with organic Reprazent-break-infinity, saxophone melodies, Neu-Kraut-transcendence, nervous drones, gloomy bass figures, minimal pop and manic computer malfunctioning tones. All wrapped in a warm void of Melancholie, touching the eternal with murky gloves. Pointillist tunes, thoughtfully peculiar, seriously serious. Now is all they need. Now is all they want. Lion’s Drums full length exists as an exploration in multiple dimensions. First by challenging the notion of the album format by presenting a body of work that lies snuggly between remixes, edits and original works and secondly as a means to delve into the transcendent potential of the drum. The album sets the tone by putting these two concepts fully on display with its hypnotic chant, swaying one into ease over the first two songs. In orderly cue folding and unfolding, meditatively through, melodies as muddied pastelle whispers cast over the measured language of the drum. Breaking away from the musing themes of the opening songs we find an ecstatic ritual in "Tanz der Körperlinge" and "Journey to Middle Earth”, two distinct varieties but both of the same perennial species. Inky ether seeps back in through the second half of the album with a peak of frenzied tumbling toms and incongruous textures hovering above in the Manos Tsangaris’ collaboration “Crying Tafel” and his re-imagining of Tullio De Piscopo’s unhinged drum excursion “Fastness”. The closing exemplifies the edit/remix/original ethos proposed for this work with Lions Drums drawing from tapes and original material of electronic pioneers Suzanne Ciani and Roberto Musci. Drawing from unreleased music and song sketches by the original artists as well as field recordings from travels & studio sessions made by Roberto Musci & Manos Tsangaris in the 80's and early 90’s he constructs a side winding journey through playful textures and ethereal moods.

Mikey Sibson brings a new version of Lele, making his Eclectics debut with a truly phenomenal slice of deep club dub. Boasting a bass line so low slung it makes Hooky look uptight, this epic version plays with mechanics and dynamics, stretching time and dragging delay all over the shop. It’s hard not to think of Weatherall at his dubbed-out deepest. And that’s not a comparison we make lightly, no Sabre-rattling here.

Panta Rex was introduced to me due to his output on Noorden. When I moved to Cologne I was looking for people to start doing music with and Alex from Noorden introduced me to him. Soon he started to show me more of his music. 

I instantly felt in love with Dyade which is a beautiful song to end a set with that lasted the whole night and is ending when the sun is already shining again. By the way the working title of this beautiful song was dtf-uia.  

Youth in the 90s shows you where Panta Rex got his musical background from and it is a homage back to the golden times after the fall of the wall and all the never ending parties. 

Critter is a club hit with a long build-up and a drop that is unique in its own way, that lets you expect something different and it is also hitting very hard. 

Lares in the end is one of those songs that feels like an old Workshop record. House at its best and with lyrics brought onto point.
