Big thanks to all the cuties who came out last night. Everyone was on their best behaviour. I heard some hot music & saw some stunning performances when cruising around in between playing in the Disco Darkroom.

All of the records I play in this set are the fruits of a rich, cultural heritage achieved by the Black, Latin American & Queer communities of Chicago, Detroit, New York & across the USA during the late 70s, 80s, 90s & still going. 

I am amazed that while living under oppression, discrimination & segregation, these communities forged a culture of Unconditional Love & Empowerment.

Disco, House & Techno music is Unconditional Love & Empowerment. 

Since we adopted this beautiful culture we have a responsibility to be Loving & Empowering in return. Especially towards the artists & communities who have spent decades developing it. They are again being neglected & exploited by an industry that profits off of their achievements. 

Let's publicly acknowledge & study the origins of Underground Club Culture. 
Let's be humble cultivators of a worldwide music family.
Let's build transatlantic bridges to connect with the source. 
Otherwise we're growing branches without roots.

Gratts is back once again, hot on the heels of various Balearic outings like 'Sun Circles', 'Pretty Lights' and 'Jour De Fete' but this time he is in house mode. This release comes under his new Trackhead T moniker and finds him keeping things raw and stripped back. For the sessions, the Belgian artist limited himself to using inly around 12 channels maximum per tune. This Klub Romance EP is the result and a track that harks back to his Berlin stomping ground, with deep but driving house cuts that have subtle hints of everyone from Felix Da Housecat to Boo Williams. The low slung sleaze and muted rave stabs of 'My Miseducation' is our standout.

"Verdor," the Spanish term for verdancy, embodying the lush appearance of flourishing vegetation, serves as the thematic core of this release by Aurumm. In navigating the realm of dub-infused dance music, Aurumm weaves the dynamic qualities of nature into each track. The result is an immersive journey that beckons listeners to dance to life and growth.

The EP opens with "Amoena," a track that establishes the tone with a pulsating beat and flourishing chords, evoking the vibrant energy of verdancy.

Moving forward, "Monstera" seamlessly blends synths and broken beats, creating a harmonious dance that mirrors the interconnected relationships in ecosystems. The deliberate introduction of randomness in certain percussive elements adds an extra layer, generating a sense of organic, evolving, and, at times, unpredictable beauty.

Culminating in the release, "Calathea" emerges as the most danceable track. Purposefully designed, this track is a rhythmic powerhouse crafted to set the dance floor ablaze with its infectious rhythm. Russian born and London and Berlin residing, DJ Vadim has built a reputation as one of the world’s top independent producers; travelling the globe, performing and collaborating with established and developing talents that cross continents, languages and cultures. Vadim has become well respected as an innovator in a number of areas during his career, "a veteran presence in the DJ community as well as one of the foremost producers in too many communities to count, Vadim is never running out of ideas" (URB Magazine). In 1994, Vadim founded his own independent record label, Jazz Fudge and signed to Ninja Tune the following year. So begun Vadim’s adventure that is now approaching its twentieth year and has seen him tour across 68 countries and perform over 2500 times.

Hard to put a peg on because he sticks to no rule-book, Vadim’s musical repertoire encompasses hip hop, trip hop, soul, funk, grime, reggae, dub and bass, and he has produced numerous solo and group albums across these genres (Ninja Tune, Jazzfudge, Wordsound, BBE) with seminal tracks such as The Terrorist, Black is the night and Bluebird. Throughout his career he has worked with a variety of musicians, singers and groups, including DJ Krush, Stevie Wonder, The Roots, Prince, Public Enemy, Dilated Peoples, Kraftwerk, Sly and the family stone, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Super Furry Animals, and Paul Weller. He has formed and produced a number of groups: The Bug, The Isolationist, The Russian Percussion, One Self and The Electric, and In 2002 Vadim was nominated for a Latin Grammy for his work with 7 Notas 7 Colores. Delving into the broadcasting world, Vadim’s radio shows ‘Around the World in 8 Relays,’ broadcast by the BBC World Service was nominated for a Sony Award. 

Always innovating and pushing the boundaries, Vadim's website was Sony Award nominated and he has kept abreast of advances in technologies, both in the studio, on stage and in collaborating with and engaging his fans accross the world. His new monthly show on Mixcloud.com is one of the biggest on the platform.

“We recorded this mix at 6am before heading down for a gig in Bristol. Similar to our DJ sets in a club, it's not really one genre it's just a collection of stuff we enjoy dancing & listening to. Records we've been listening to that week and older ones that pop into our heads at intervals during the week leading up to recording the mix. We start off with some house records focussing on the percussive side of things then moving into some spacey electro & slightly harder stuff. This was a lot of fun to record and felt really smooth in terms of the progression of tempo and energy. We hope people enjoy it wherever or however they listen to it.”
