A lull descends in the midst of battle. Thick smoke wafts in between the burnt out skyscrapers around your position as embers dodge and weave in a lazy dance on scorching roils of air. As echos of the most recent projectile blasts fade out, your in-suit audio receptors relay cascades of crumbling concrete, the light chink of ash raining on your armor, and the distant sub-bass growl of moving war machines. Your breath is measured, your gaze steady, but your mind races; how many rounds do you have left? And where are your reinforcements? You snap fresh clips into each assault rifle while surveying the wreckage around you for a fallback position. The shrieks of moving metal get louder, and soon you'll pick up the unintelligible chittering of your advancing foes. One more deep breath. You are ready.
