I needed a reason to be alive, I needed a reason to care.
I needed salvation, peace and love, I needed my soul stripped bare.
I needed a chance to see the world from another point of view.
I needed to know my heart was right, I needed to know the truth.

I needed to feel a sense of joy, I needed to find release.
I needed a calmness over me, I needed to know true peace.
I needed to find a focal point that would not distort or bend.
I found all of that, and more, I found a friend.

I have found a friend in Jesus, he broke the chains and set me free.
Long before my great discov’ry, he found me!

What a friend we have in Jesus. All my sins and griefs to bear.
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
