Inoyamaland - GLASS CHIME

Spent a whole night composing a boss theme for Sinistar. He scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, so I've always been fascinated by how dark and dire the settings and backstories could be in a handful of Williams' titles. You might get things like playing as a droid as the last line of defense for humanity during a robot rampage, or living in the dystopian future of 1999 when mankind's sense of taste devolves to a strict preference to hyperviolence and game shows.

In the game, Sinistar, you're the one thing standing against a hulking spacecraft that devours enemy ships and directly beckons the player, and your one defense is in mining highly specific crystals to craft bombs while hordes of enemies attempt to intercept you or steal your crystals, and praying to god he isn't fully built before you have enough. Because of this constant disadvantage, fights with him often end quickly, usually in his favor.

This absolutely lines up with my upcoming Pizza Sauce project, so with this, I wanted to create a boss theme that captures the absolute danger of the situation at hand, how quickly Sinistar can defeat you, and the feeling of being cornered by him while ill-equipped, while using gratuitous fits of samples from the game, and a little from NARC too. For this, I acquired three choir samples from Metal Slug, and they certainly helped a lot!

most instruments heard in this track are real, but fragmented and mangled into tiny little pieces

The astonishingly deep lore of the game meant the intended emotional evocations were incredibly specific. It also needed to be able to slow down to  half speed (and slower!) while still sounding good. It took over a hundred hours and multiple rewrites for me to be satisfied. Over half an hour of material was created, the ideas were distilled into this.

Ended up making this little remix as a sketch at first but due to HEAVY DEMAND (LOLL LOVE Y'ALL) I decided to finish it ! I absolutely ADOREEE this song and at first didn't think I had anything creative to add to it but I'm glad I ended up giving it a shot anyways !

So far, this is the most complex electronic piece I have ever made, taking about 5 months to assemble. 

 I suppose this piece is in A quarter sharp & quarter flat minor. To explain, every instrument is moving up and down in pitch slowly, at different speeds. These slow vibrati give a strange, enriching vibrancy to the harmony, especially when interacting with another instrument.

 The piece was composed and constructed using FL Studio, Adobe Audition and Audiosculpt 3.0. After literally hundreds of crashes, the piece was split into 12 parts to save on CPU usage, then stitched back together.
