OMAKASE #178a, GOLD CODE

First productions were in 1981 using the crudest equipment. Started DJing on April 1st, 1984; and, remained almost strictly a vinyl DJ for 30 years. Was given Ableton in October of 2013; but, didn't touch it until April 2014.

Several tracks were completed in Ableton that year: Furry Rave Theme (samples Ape Like Me, Ladybug Disco & Suzy) Alright With Me (samples It's Alright With Me), Future's Surely From The Past (samples Conscious of My Conscious), Letting Go Is Beautiful (samples Army Dreamers)& Holiday of Hip-Hop (samples Holiday of Strings), as well as a few tracks made without samples.

This year several more raw tracks built from scratch (no samples), were completed in February and March: Asia Minor, Hyperbola, Train By Twilight, No Rave Back & Yes Way Back.

The latest Sketch is 50 minutes of unorganized, organic, real time experimentation with some sounds newly in my possession are in a Playlist called "Classic & Proper Noodling". Perhaps this will be formatted into a more Orthodox length and structure in the near future; but, for now it is up in its raw unedited lengthy unfolding for the Hypno-House Aficionado.

Gold Code aka Raf Zevallos-Crowe, is a DJ/producer based in Orange County, California. A lifelong music lover, collector, and DJ, Raf's eclectic sets run the gamut of dance music with a base in-house and techno.

Growing up in 1980s Los Angeles, he was initially inspired by radio mix shows and DJs such as Doc Martin, Rob One, Michael "Mixxin" Moore, and 1580 KDAY Mixmasters. Moving to San Francisco in 1992, he immersed himself in its underground scene. Attending parties lead to working them and eventually to djing. He played his first warehouse in 1996 and spent the next 10 years djing and producing some of San Francisco’s most infamous parties and club nights.

"Gold Code" was initially founded as a music blog in 2007. The site showcased past, present, and future classics as well as his personal edits and DJ mixes. 

In 2009, he focused his efforts on music production and a live show. He adopted "Gold Code" as his moniker and debuted a well-received live set at the celebrated “As You Like It” parties. Remixes soon followed for Nude Photo Music and SubSensory labels culminating with his debut release, "The Day After" with remixes by Audioelectronic, Basskittens, Chris Fierenze, and Jonah Sharp.

2015 brought a move back to Southern California and a radio show, OMAKASE. Currently broadcasting live on Sunday from 6-8 pm [Pacific] on KUCI 88.9 FM, and livestreaming on www.twitch.tv/omakaseshow, showcasing the art of mixing past, present, and future classics.
