The bubbles were hypnotic and mesmerising as they flew through the air towards the ocean. They drifted atop the breeze out to sea before popping and becoming one with the air around them. 

This place was some kind of magic, sun kissed and decadent. He strolled alongside the pool, gazing out at the mythical view which lay before him. It was hard to believe that this time last week he was at home, lost in the midst of the city. 

Out here there were better things. Love, sun, dub and an energy which would keep him fulfilled for a lifetime if only he could. 

As the sun began to set in the distance he took in a deep breath, bracing himself for the night to come...

Belgian producer, DJ and FCL member Red D has announced a new remix EP dubbed ‘Re-Fantasized & Realized’ featuring tracks from his 2022 album. He has invited a stellar cast of friends and producers to remix his work including the likes of Charles Webster, Kai Alice and Far Out Radio Systems. 

It is however the San Soda remix which we bring to you today, a wonderful deep cut set to cause mischief on the dancefloor.

The mighty Bawrut returns to Ransom Note Records with his incredible new record, Raqs EP. The follow up to his debut album on R$N, In The Middle, Our Man In Madrid discharges four weapons grade club monsters that will, as the title suggests, have have bodies moving to and fro the world over. 

In Bawrut’s own words: “Raqs means dance or dancing in Arabic. The need for dance in our society and it’s act of liberation is the focus of this new EP, where I explore a beloved place like the Mediterranean sea, mixing Arabic voices and Latin American rhythms, stabs, trance and flamenco.”

First single Que Quiere Usted wastes no time, entering the fray with a frantic clap assault that grows and evolves throughout the track, augmented by Bawrut’s trademark sparse, bouncy, synth lines. Hot on its heels, Draa Valley is a more understood affair, taking aim firmly at the dance floor. All driving drums and hooky vocal samples, it darts high and low before settling into that air-fist-punching final drop. 

Azadi shows yet another side to our Bozza, this time treating us to a mechanical funk workout of epic proportions. It’s angular stabs are thoroughly danceable, punctuated by some vaguely human (but definitely robotic) vocals that lift us towards mechanised heaven. Sonidero Usera closes proceedings with a more organic feel, opening with rainforest sounds interspersed with tribal drum patterns and cut up vocal stabs, which develops into a pummelling groove that is, quite literally, all singing, all dancing!

Die Bar99 ist nicht mehr. Am 10. Und 11. Mai hat man mit einem langen Closing über 2 Tage die Türen geschlossen. 

Ich durfte am Freitag den 10. Mai den Opener machen. Ganz klar konnte ich zur frühen Uhrzeit noch nicht so Gas geben. Dennoch ist das Set ein kleines feines emotionales und auch zum Teil rockiges Set geworden, welches die vielen schönen Stunden im kleinen roten Häuschen für mich noch mal  zum Abschluss bringt.  Ab und an ist es vielleicht ein klein wenig kitschig geworden, aber für einen Abschied ist eigentlich nichts zu kitschig. Den Leuten, die zu früher Stunde schon da waren, hatte es jedenfalls sichtlich gefallen und so kann auch ich ruhigen Gewissens good by Bar99 sagen.
