Usually we write a little something about the music but this time knowing how this artist works I asked them directly about the project and I’m sure glad I did!

Goldfat presents ‘Note’

“These tracks were written at a time where I was feeling particularly fragile about my place in the drum and bass scene, both creatively and socially. There's a lot about the way this scene operates that makes it very uncomfortable for those who don't look, think or behave in a particular way. Maybe because drum and bass is an underground movement some people (mainly cis men) don't consider that the social issues that effect wider society such as queer-phobia, sexism, racism, etc. also exists within our tiny community, and that this has a profound affect on the music that comes out of this scene.

With all that said, the process of making and releasing this music was a joyous one. 'Empty Spaces' speaks to the feeling you get when a song hits different and for a split second everyone in the room loses their sense of self. That's quite a unique and precious thing, and probably what draws people to this music. However, if our spaces aren't inclusive the capacity to create moments like these dies very quickly.

'Keep It Simple', 'Learn To Speak', and 'Honesty Matters' are all call-to-actions and mantras that I say to myself to help me be better at nurturing non-toxic spaces around me. They are also me indulging in the privilege of being able to mess around and explore different sonic worlds. Ultimately allowing myself to have fun and enjoy this music.

I feel immensely grateful to have a network that is diverse, kind, open and supportive, this music speaks to that too. I did.”

You know what ... after this sentence, the rest is kinda provardo. To tell you the truth, I play what makes me feel good. Welcome to my bag of mixes, mostly D&B and liquid, but I like to play a fusion of sounds to tickle minds and create visual soundscapes. I have been mixing since 1993. Started on Technics 1210s with vinyl morphed to CDJs then my ikkle beauty a Numark iDJ pro by algorithm, somewhat rare iPad integrated controller. Now im back where I started on vinyl with the added luxury of time coded records to add into my mixes.  Anyways, I do what makes me feel good at the time cos, well thats all we got. A self-taught artist and producer, HerShe started her musical journey beatboxing at age 11, spinning on the decks at 14, and became an independent music producer by 19. Beatboxing is both a creative skill she integrates into her music, AND a competitive outlet where she won the Electric Forest Beatbox Battle Championship, American Beatbox Championships (2v2s), New York Beatbox Championship, and landed 5th place in the Beatboxing World Championships in Berlin. She incorporates Beatboxing, DJing, and Rapping into her sets, adding that special and unique element to her live performances. 

A highly-followed streamer and content creator with over 25 million views and counting, she prides herself on using her platform as a way to spread positive social messages, especially to other aspiring female and LGBTQ+ musicians. Her dynamic style has led to her releasing with Deadbeats, Hypnovizion, Wakaan. She's had a multi-year residency playing SXSW, and has performed with artists such as Hamdi, Of the trees, Wreckno, Superfuture, Meso, Nero, Dr. Fresch, Wuki, and more. Performing and creating has allowed her to be featured on platforms such as Paper Mag, EDM.com, Shure.com, and EDM Identity.
