Fresh off of appearances on Shogun Audio and our own Full Fat 01, Athena returns to demonstrate her versatility with two choice slices of delectable breakbeat soul.
‘Take Flight’ has lots of the qualities we love in a track; snappy breaks, lots of filtering,  soulful vocal snips, lovely warm bass, lots of space and lastly its a bit...well...sad.  There’s something quite soothing in this pensive space though. Music to cleanse the mind in these troubled times!
‘Eunoia’ continues exploring the same techniques to wonderful effect. This time though it feels much more joyous. I don’t know what flavour you call this but give us a double helping!

When we introduced IYRE on Full Fat 01 we added Sri-Lanka to the ever growing list of places to look for drum & bass and now he’s back on the Fat, flying the Sinha Flag high with two magical pieces of music.

IYRE sets a primeval tone straight away with a soundscape that summons the dawn of time before his bass and drums push us head first into the future. An ‘Āśrama’ is place for spiritual exploration, a place to ‘step in the journey of life’, a fitting title then for a song that straddles the ancient to the future. This is astral traveling!

‘Zainab’ begins like a warped record, wonky and otherworldly. Crispy drums and rumbling bass roll through with enough space for IYRE to deliver his rich, eastern flavours with elements from South Asia to Arabia. The second drop continues to deliver even more with shiny synths and wild sitars. Dazzling!

First up it’s the return of Athena with ‘Bayside Groove’. From the opening note, we’re instantly transported to a waterside scene with the sound of waves, gulls, chatter and playful laughter. Flutes gently flutter, a saxophone teases and an acoustic guitar is plucked with a carefree attitude. Drums anchor the jazzy vibes into place before we’re treated to some extra funky double bass.

Aydn debuts on Goldfat with ‘No Ride Home’. A melancholy piano plays and dialogue provides a cinematic feel before Aydn brings in his minimal but funky drums. The bass follows the piano line and sets the groove before we’re introduced to vocal tales of heartache and a love that ‘can't be found’. Simple yet fresh!

Aydn - No Ride Home

pyxis makes a welcome return to the fat with two cuts demonstrating her trademark ‘light and dark’ style.

‘Moonshadow’ opens with skippy breaks and lovely wonky keys that conjure the sound of an old record. Soulful vocals carry you through before a funky bass drops setting the groove. pyxis deftly weaves her magic sounds in and out of the track with a little extra added stardust along the way. Interstellar!

‘Opium’ finds pyxis in much of the same artistic space. The vocal sample speaks of being ‘here when you need somebody’ but this soundscape is not entirely happy, in fact it’s kind of sad. The mid section provides momentary catharsis before some dark synth lines bring us sharply back. The track title definitely adds depth to the narrative. Intoxicating!

Last year Aydn gave us ‘No Ride Home’ for the first of our Nuggets series and we were so impressed with his fresh, youthful take on liquid that we asked him to keep sending us music. It didn’t take us too long to secure these two beauties and we hope you dig these as much as we do.

‘Circuit Prayer’ features the Mancunian wordsmith Nat James delivering some serious drip with his laid back flow and electric metaphors over Aydn’s crispy drums, fresh keys and twisting bass. Effortless!

‘Left Apart’ finds Aydn flexing his sample chops with this rushing, funky, fizzy concoction. Blippy atmospherics, r&b vocal chops and amens go down like an energising cocktail. Vibrant and zingy!

‘Waterfalls’ features the impeccable, soul drenched vocals of the amazing Frank Carter III. These two conjure absolute magic in this collab with Frank effortlessly lacing pyxis skippy drums and double bass licks. Frank’s lyrics lament the duality of the beauty and pain of life. This is healing music!

‘Elias’ finds pyxis exploring her jazzy side. Soothing piano chords, rolling breaks, double bass and emotive saxophone samples seasoned with some trademark pyxis twinkles. Summertime bliss!

‘Goldfinch’ rolls with deep, frosty atmospherics until the bass rips through. Counter Culture carefully sustains the drama whilst flipping his beat and bass elements with ease. Magical stylings!

‘One Time’ again finds this artist sharing his love for dub and soundsystem culture. A few simple ingredients; breaks, stabs, mc samples and bass are all he needs to deliver this hearty, warming dish. Good for you like Ital Stew!

Dustkey joins the Fatfam remixing ‘Evergreen’ by Auris & Sydney and injects some freshness with super funky sliding bass and heavenly keys.

Digital Native flips Athena’s Goldfat classic ‘Take Flight’ into a rib shaking, wall slapping affair we didn’t even know we needed until we heard it.

Auris handles pyxis ‘Lacuna’. Rolling breaks and smooth bass meet pyxis’s sonic dreamscape with ease.

Lastly Leniz reworks Artsea’s ‘When I’m With You’. Nostalgic vibes run deep as Leniz brings out a heavy reese bass and chunky rolling beats. Last tune of the night business!

‘Verkeerd’ has Auris flexing some rolling, techy styles perfect for staring out at winter landscapes or zoning out to in the club. Hypnotic pads, snappy drums and a heaving bass line combine gorgeously to create a deep introspective feel but there’s something uneasy in Auris’s pads and synths.

Goldfat welcomes Kray into the fold with 2 exquisite techy, liquid bangers.

For ‘The Sunset Strip’ Kray collaborates with Unchained Music co-founder Lyndon Jarr (we do love Unchained!) and they’ve conjured up some neon city inspired magic guaranteed to get you moving. Rolling beats, a super catchy vocal line, red hot bass and some killer 80’s styled guitars tie this track together. For maximum effect grab your shades, turn up the volume and pretend you’re riding in a 1980s Lambo.

On ‘Beyond the Horizon’ Kray draws his inspiration from black holes and the vastness of space. Rolling drums, eerie synths and a smattering of dark matter electrify this track. Supernova sounds for traveling to the edge of the universe!
