My number one goal when making a mix is always to tell a story, and to make the hour feel like a journey that we can take together. I couldn't care less about exclusives, VIP remixes, or proving that I have more unreleased music than the next guy. I just want to jump into your head and soundtrack a day of your life, and that all comes down to telling a story through the songs that transcend the summer of 2016.  

To me, the story of this Verano mix is all about change... unavoidable oncoming change. Just like Autumn's inevitable arrival at the end of Summer, I can't help but feel like something is on the horizon ready to change everything. I'm not sure what the next few months will hold but it feels like things will get blurry and never be the same again. Change can be terrifying and exciting all at once. The summer can be the best and the worst in that way. I tried to capture that with this mix.

Things are fine and then they aren't but there's always hope at the end.

Goldroom - Verano Mix 2016

Music has always served as an escape for me. My goal with these mixes is always the same - to take a journey for an hour that soundtracks that escape. I spend a lot of time trying to make each mix a seamless thought that rises and falls along with an imagined moment in time. There's magic in those moments where you're with someone and the world opens up and anything feels possible. Whether you're right inside of that adventure or just eyes closed in bed dreaming about it, hopefully this can soundtrack your own escape.

Inverno Mix 2017

I'm not sure what I would do without music. I often tell people that music is my primary escape in life, but that's taken on a whole new meaning in the wake of my injury. The recovery process has been at times frustrating and slow for someone so used to being on the move. I had to work in short bursts over the course of a few weeks, finding new music here, building my Live session there, and working on the mix in painful 30 minute chunks. It felt like I was learning everything all over again, but it gave me something to do and it forced me to think through every small decision. I don't think its a coincidence that I finally started to feel like myself as I finished up the mix last week. It truly feels like the music in this mix saved my life, and hopefully it can be a small part in helping yours.

Verano Mix 2017

The last year has been weird. Foggy endless evenings in my studio, days locked in a cervical neck collar, nights on overnight flights, early mornings in hotel rooms. When you're working through an injury, depression, heartbreak, or even just anxiety about the world, I've always found that the days just start to blend together. The past year feels like an endless haze, full of questions and half answers. I always try to contextualize these mixes, but the truth is, making music has been true north, the one real escape. I've always used music this way, and I'm realizing more as I get older that music is pretty unimpeachable in that way. So what I can promise is that this mix is pure - full of a lot of that confusion, cloudiness, heartbreak, and hope. If you're feeling those things, this mix is for you. I hope it can be a window of hope or a ray of light; an escape you can close your eyes to and breathe for a minute.

Saguaro Mix 2018

For episode 13 we are so excited to host one of our biggest influencers, supporters and friend from the early days - Eau Claire! Feed Me Disco founder and one of the most recognized names in the indie dance scene around the country, Eau Claire has had countless chart toppers over the years and constantly supported by the likes of Goldroom, Autograf and many more. In fact, she will be joining Goldroom at his High Seas Festival in New York City on August 24th - mark your calendars everyone and enjoy this amazing groovy disco and house mix and her interview below. 

1. What inspired you for this mix and how would you describe it? (anything in terms of vibe, mood, influences) 
I was inspired by the recent remix I did for Monogem called "Shade" and a couple shows I have coming up this summer.  One of them will be the High Seas Festival in New York City on August 24th!  I'm so excited for it and wanted to make this comeback mix extra special.  It's sprinkled with groovy disco and house vibes perfect for sailing off on a yacht. 

2. Give us a peak into a day in your life.
At this particular moment i'm on holiday which is wonderful :)  I'm all the way in Vancouver Canada spending time with my grandmother and parents.  When I'm not on holiday I work from 10a-7pm and then typically cook some dinner, maybe workout, and then either head to my studio to work on some new music for an hour or two before bed.  But since  I've been on holiday  I've had so much more time to work on music and I'm super excited for you all to hear this new mix!  

3. Tell us about a recent challenge you had. 
I'm working on this new original track which I recorded my own vocals for.  I'm no Mariah which makes it 10x more challenging to finish a track because I'm never satisfied with the final product.   I can't tell you how many unfinished songs sit on my hard drive.  So I decided to try something different and while using the vocals I originally recorded I experimented with slicing a couple of the phrases to midi and created a whole new chorus with way more energy and vibrance than the original.  Remember to always keep your mind open and think outside the box if you're faced with something difficult.

4. What is something you're looking forward to? 
Releasing new original music and performing on my first yacht festival.

5. If you were king/queen of the world and had a holiday named after you what would it be and what would be done on that day? 
Haha toughest question for last...I'd say we should name it Disco Nap Day so everyone could take midday naps - what could be better?!

SunSets #1 (Far Away Together Mix 2020)

Music has saved my life so many times it's hard to count at this point. It's pulled me from some dark places and inspired me to do things, both personally and professionally that I never thought I was capable of. It makes the best moments brighter and the lowest moments ones that you can process and grow from. I know all of these things to be true, and yet the surprising power of music is something that sneaks up on me every time. 

There's a moment while I was recording SunSets #2, just after I made a particularly nasty mess of a mix, that I had this moment of the purest joy I can remember in ages. I was playing exactly what I wanted to be playing and I was imagining people enjoying the moment with me and it just felt purer than I've felt in months, maybe years. I suppose it's easy to imagine that living in uncertain times would result in some special epiphanies and unexpected ideas, but I never imagined that DJing for essentially nobody would inspire me so much. I feel liberated in a way I never imagined I could be, and I feel like I did when launching the project in 2011 all over again.

This mix, these songs, and then my performance of it, flaws and all, feel like a step towards something more authentic and special than the way I used to make my seasonal mixes. The real improvisation that takes place and the special unexpected happy mistakes make this something much more special to me. I hope regardless of whether or not you were with me last week for the stream that you can hear some of that moment in this mix. I hope this mix, Aviva 2020, can lift you from wherever you are right now, to somewhere a bit more lifted and hopeful than before. Thank you for listening and spread love as always. ~ Josh

SunSets #2 (Aviva Mix 2020)

The transition between Spring and Summer is usually a time filled with so much hope, and yet this year I find myself, unsurprisingly, stuck in a mire of sad music and foggy ambient evenings. I feel like I'm 15 again, actively searching out songs for heartbreak and longing and just bathing in them day after day. I'm not sure how much other people can relate, but I've found myself going through wild swings of emotion and outlook during the last few months. Sometimes almost euphoric about the possibilities ahead and other times pulled down so far into the realities of the moment that doing almost anything becomes paralyzing. One of the few constants has been preparing and then weirdly performing these mixes each month. It's a magic thing because when I'm done I always feel like the mixes sound both like my current state but also some level of escape that I'm unconsciously reaching for. I'm not entirely sure what I'm reaching for at the moment, but I can tell you that these songs made me feel things that I haven't felt in a while. I feel that longing again. I hope it's melancholy doesn't drag you down, but instead gives you a few drops of hope. Summer isn't here yet but it's coming...
