Every exile’s mirror is a nation in disguise,

The real invasion’s always been at home.

They sharpen their tongues on the migrant tide,
But it’s greed in the palace that they try to hide.
Tax breaks for kings, chains for the poor,
It’s the same old empire at the same old door.

Still hope lights the sea as they reach for more.

But the empire chants with its papers of blame,
Turning lives into numbers, erasing their name.

The Flood

This piece has been written especially for the final bachelor exam of Petri Arvo who is an amazing recorder player from Finland. The patch for this piece has been created by Felipe Ignacio Noriega mexican composer currently based in Amsterdam. This is the recording from Petri's final exam. This title combines dedication to Petri whose amazing performance  inspired me and Felipe to write this piece and the ensemble setting, which is a trio.
