Two hot remixes here for James Curd’s collab with The Swiss’ Sidwho? from an all-star team breathing new life into the funky disco killer that dropped in the summer.

Dynamic Dutch duo Fouk go to town on their version, honing in on the arp from the original and pushing its camp Italo disco energy to the max. Their bouncing bassline stomps with attitude over swung percussion, with subtle Rhodes chords adding warmth as the lush choir of vocal harmonies descend. Taking all the swagger of the original and adding a little sunshine into the mix, they’ve done a stellar job.  "We had a blast working on the remix, the original is so much fun!” they beam. “At first we also had a change over to a more housey sound in the middle of the track. However as the arpeggiated lead from the original is super cool, we really wanted to give our remix a bit of an Italo disco feel. After adding the Italo bass we knew this had to be the direction for the whole track. The ‘80s synths, chords and solo added to the vibe!"

Parisian upstarts O.N.O. continue their excellent form on their remix which goes a little more for the jugular than the groovy Fouk mix. There’s a strong ‘80s house/boogie feel to their slinking groove, and the way they lace it with spacey arpeggios is quite scintillating. Dramatic use of the sassy vocal from the intro of the original sets up a high-impact drop, and shining with their usual sleek production values, this remix oozes fun and class.

Hess Is More is a 7 person musician's collective based in New York and Copenhagen around musical mastermind Mikkel Hess. They released their Gomma debut EP last June. Strange, beautiful music from outta space. Balinese marimba's, African drums, spooky voices - great new music. 

Now here come the remixes. Dimitri from Paris did an effective, supersexy disco stomper. Keeping a lot from the original version. The crazy voices, the Punk Funk feel, the moody, new wave atmosphere. But now it's a club bomb. Then Williamsburg's hidden underground star Lorne Dune reworked the other song. In a more edgy, distorted way. Beautiful. Then you have a version by Munich's Pollyester. The former bass player of Munk now has gone solo. She does this kind of naive, early 80ies, powerdisco you could hear at clubs like the Loft or DJ Harvey playing. The EP also features a extra long version of the song Primate. Orgastic Hardcore Disco Rock.

Benjamin Quint and Markus Schwarzbauer aka Bara Bröst are looking forward to the summer: warm and melodious sounds dominate the tracks on the new album. “Kokolores” is a German word for ‘nonsense”, but pure nonsense is not the (only) theme of this album… the word derives from the sound of a rooster’s crow and it was used to describe the sometimes brilliant sometimes tedious chatter of the cocaine-driven hipsters/bohemians of Berlin in the Golden Twenties… 

Working with musicians Jonathan Moore (piano), Michael Neuber (drums) and Philipp Stevens (guitar) was, for Bara Bröst a very fruitful creative exchange. As it was for the songstress Domonique and the singers Conan Kowalski and Capey Cash all the featured artists had the chance to enrich the tracks with their ideas. “In-your-face” is easy – but the Bara Bröst guys are looking for more subtle ways to reach the audience. That’s the artistic credo the former class mates now ‘House’ mates stick to. This is also true for their critically acclaimed live shows, which grew the audience for their debut album “Elephancycle” and will do for their second album “Kokolores”.

The result of this hard work is hand crafted, meticulously arranged, percussive Deep- and Funkyhouse. The stylistic spectrum ranges from complex Pop tracks to melody driven Disco hits. While listening to Bara Bröst’s new album you can already sense the coming of summer: dancing the night away… in other words: the lightness of being!

Dirt Crew sublabel Spiel started out in 2013 with three nice releases, the first two by "Clancy“ featuring remixes by “Urulu” and “Prins Thomas” followed by an ep from "Mercury“. After a hiatus Spiel is back for 2016 with a new four tracker. Hailing from Leipzig "Good Guy Mikesh“ is a guy with a pretty massive array of releases & remixes (on Permanent Vacation, Ellum Audio, Renate Schallplatten or Riotvan to name but a few) and a huge range of influences from funk/soul to 80’s new-wave electro and back again.  "Why Not" here featured is a deep and dreamy wonder. The bass slips and slides dancing with the top line while a palette of plucked strings, tuned percussion and Mikesh’s signature synth soundscapes reach into the distance as the track continues to roll.

This limited pressing includes remixes by fourprogressive new dance artists prominent in Edinburgh & Glasgow. It was May 2017 when Earthboogie’s debut release dropped on Leng. The soundsystem-loving East London duo rightly won praise for a fine EP that brilliantly joined the dots between all things intergalactic, terrestrial and tribal. 

Having spent the last ten months recording their adventures, Izaak Gray and Nicola Robinson return with “Silken Moon”, the first single from their forthcoming debut album, Human Call. 

In typical fashion, “Silken Moon” cannily combines musical elements from a myriad of styles – most notably Afro-disco, samba and mid-tempo Chicago house – to create a humid hybrid that defies easy categorization. There are bouncy organ riffs, undulating acid lines, clipped Afro-funk guitars, tons of tropical percussion and the chanted, carnival-friendly vocalizations of guest singer Nina Miranda. 

The release comes backed with remixes from two members of the extended Leng family: long-serving producer Felix Dickinson and Turkish rising star Ali Kuru. Dickinson sticks close to the original of “Silken Moon” with a mix built around gently jacking machine drums and Earthboogie’s sweaty guitar licks while Kuru takes “Human Call” in an altogether more cosmic direction. Pushing the track’s psychedelic TB-303 lines and tropical textures to the fore whilst adding his own mind-altering electronics – most notably a fat new synth bassline – Kuru cleverly re-casts the track as a pulsating, late night throb-job.
