Atlas is my series of mixtapes of my favourite songs I've been working on that don't fit into other projects. I've released three albums since Atlas, Vol. 3, but until now, it remained my personal favourite work of mine. It will always hold a special place in my heart, but now, I think Atlas, Vol. 4 takes the top spot.

Umwelt returns to Shipwrec for his third 12” on the dutch label in as many years. Encoding the Future sees the French pioneer deliver five tracks of on point electronics. Umwelt is known for his trademark sound of piercing percussion, serrating synthlines and industrial strength bass. These elements are all present on this latest EP but have been carved back to allow strings to soar and pads to resonate. New plains are explored. Frigid elegance is juxtaposed by coarse chords, deep basslines countered by lilting lines. Encoding the Future opens a new chapter for the Lyons based producer as he dives into new textures and tones whilst remaining tethered to his cold electro roots.

Bastard Jazz is proud to present The Love EP from Cork, Ireland based DJ and producer Colm K. Colm, a 2004 graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy, has been making waves for a few years now with his debut, Basics 12” for Bastard Jazz, a 7” and a 10” released on sublabel BSTRD Boots  (the latter of which is sold out and regularly changes hands for upwards of $50 on eBay), and recently shared billing with Mr. Scruff on a Hypnotic Brass Ensemble remix 12” on Choice Cuts.

Here on The Love EP, Colm’s musical vision has truly matured on a fully realized 12” that draws on such disparate influences as Herbie Hancock, 80’s boogie, J-Dilla, vintage House music, Floating Points and Q-Tip productions. Things kick off with “The Attic”, paying homage to the classic “Do You Want Me“ by “Cloud 9“ . Its immediate synths coupled with hard hitting boom-bap drums, rhythmic percussion, deep bass, and twinkling keys transform into a seriously bouncy boogie bounce midway through. Next up, “Nothing”  works in a “Love Hangover” inspired vocal line with booming kicks, astrologically inspired synth leads and acoustic guitar stretches. On the flip, “Good Fridays” bumps nice and tough with its neck-snapping drums, synth chords and plunging sub-bass before a midway changeup into a seriously deep piano driven monster – a perfect late night surprise. The EP rounds off with the 63 BPM cosmic jam that is “Spaced”  with its slap bass and delayed synths sitting perfectly in the pocket.  Art for the EP comes from graphic artist Donal Thorton, notable for Onra’s Long Distance cover, and many of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble covers on Choice Cuts.

This was the first track for the album I made in 2021, this is also the first track I had made after I had to reset my PC. A bit after New Years, one day my PC was in a boot loop and was constantly blue screening. I have no idea what could've caused this but it was so bad that literally the only way to actually get into my PC was to just do a complete reinstall of Windows. During this time, I was actually just planning to give up on the album and just release the tracks I had at the time as an EP, but as you can see, I carried on with it.
