In September 2023, we proudly unveiled our first full-length album - our best collective effort as a record label to this day. "Escapism" was met with high praise from both listeners and media outlets around the world, from selling out its limited edition CDs online, to making it onto Bandcamp's front page. "With gonima's clear nod to yesteryear’s wave of ambient and electronica, the album captures the essence of what made that era so pivotal, while enhancing its sound with modern elements and a solid effort to portray a storytelling experience."

Our intention with "Escapism Remixes" was to involve some of our favorite musicians around the world to create a both sonically diverse and overall meaningful album that best expresses our label's past and present. We also wanted to emphasize the constant inspiration that Montreal’s local electronic music scene has had on gonima’s work throughout his years of living there, thus recruiting some of the city's finest for remixing duties. We called upon these talented artists and close friends to take "Escapism" and reinterpret it into the unimaginable - we could not have been more satisfied with the end result.

Throughout our development as a collective, Satellite Era has always aligned with experimental electronic music first and foremost. Over the years, we have found ourselves to reach a niche middle ground, diverging from solely in-home listening to rediscovering the dancefloor. The result can be heard throughout "Escapism Remixes" as we cater to both sides of our audio spectrum. On the more obscure side, we invited glitch.cool residents Woulg and sunnk to deliver an exhilarating journey through their coined hyperglitch subgenre. Highlighting the club-centric elements of our sound DNA, we recruited rising stars Clearcast, Outback, 11ai, and Undulae to contribute their unique renditions on gonima's melodic creations. Landing somewhere in between are Upscale alumni Thorjn, Genie Tempest, and niko scheme along with Kazuki Koga, a pioneer in the gorge subgenre - their bass-infused iterations of some of the album's most emotive tracks are standout moments. As a bonus, gonima created a drumless version of "Soft Mirror," stripping down the original song to showcase its lush ambiance.

"Escapism Remixes" closes a pivotal chapter in Satellite Era's history, revisiting our best work to date and drawing influences from around the electronic music sphere. With a cast composed of some of the most prolific artists in the current, along with legends that have inspired us long before, we are deeply grateful to share the latest offering from our sonic museum.

Soft Mirror (Drumless Version)

@lukabeatovic is a producer based in Novi Sad, Serbia. To reduce the scope of his work to ambient alone might disregard the multifarity of his approach, encompassing field recordings, sound collage, soundtracking and shifts into noise and minimalist electronica. The style is always capacious and referential - pulling from Celtic folk-music, city pop, natural sounds, e.g., - without ever decentring the source, allowing space to form around the reappropriated material such that it is always the core of that moment in the music and not subordinate to the arc of the music-maker. This is an identity built over a series of short-form and full-length projects self-released between 2020-2025 and is ever-present in his Realist mix, luxuriating in the absence of apparent splendor, the simple sufficience of the sound of the sound of things.

Luka’s mix contains previously unreleased material, plus a pair of original reworks. Adding some background to these pieces, Luka mentioned the centrality of “field recordings I got over the month I was recording the mix as well as previously recorded ones. A stone I found that’s hollow and “chalk-like” being dragged over a concrete surface is the basis for the Caislean Õir rework. A pillow being rustled is the basis for the Hawthorn one. For Yewende, the bird sounds are actually my friends hooting on a hilltop near my city and the man speaking before them is a Serbian Farm YouTube guy. Pania Tower Marshes was made for a DnD session and the cranes were recorded at a marsh nearby.” There is always the same sense of ease - not easiness, but of a music where the point is not that to which the sound contributes but the orbital importance innate to every individual sound. Few producers would abdicate their authorship in an alike way. And this here is the signature of authorship.

Long toiling at the most guttural of industrial-noise-hyperglitch hybridicity, when Liège’s @romanowitch unveiled a critical season substitute on glitch.cool this March, it represented the re-emergence of a fragmentary magician now adept with a music exclusively his own. This was an astonishing record excavating a sonic world original because it occupied no territory delimitable beyond the hands of its conductor.

Romanowitch’s music is one of the screeching soul of material. The squalls of cinder, bawlings of a foundry, the timescale of spark and friction and something embrously angered. Songs of soot and scraping - their mediating, generative sludge matched equally by the extemporaneous mode of composition. The relationship between the industrial and the computational is focalized, with this focus rendering overlaps between the codified and automotive comprehensible. Between bits and matter is a world of beings always escaping aestheticization yet always revelatory of activity. In Romanowitch’s music is a legion of constructive objects all conscious enough to escape reduction. A society of subordinate states whose slipperiness permits the listener to intimate a world of things particularly alive. A particularity that adumbrates a universal indeterminacy.  

His Realist mix follows the same track as ACSS. Murmurs of the human here intrude, as debodied yawns and moans, and in Daveed Diggs’ bookending vocals - never first-person, always contradictorily total, descriptive of the disappeared to the horror of night. Talk of bloody incidents so indecipherable as to be cosmic. There are shards of genericity, but no break nor pulsation nor hiss ever feels without the presence of something either monstrous or angelic, like Romanowitch saw heaven and hell in the energetic agentiality of every sound to emerge from a silent thing.
