It’s hardly a secret that over the past decade Scandinavia has been the epicenter of the nudisco scene,
artists like Lindstrom and Prins Thomas turning out release after release that looked to the cosmos,
sparkling like exploding nebula. For Sweden’s Drop Out Orchestra though escape velocity could be
found not on the launchpad but in the equally transcendent sweat filled club scene of New York in the
late 70s.
Taking their cues from original Disco pioneers such as MFSB as much as DFA, Drop Out Orchestra
launched themselves onto the scene in 2008 with a seemingly endless supply of bootlegs, re-edits and
covers that glittered like a frost covered mirror ball. Taking tracks by everyone from TLC and Daft
Punk to Rick Astley and The Sex Pistols they transformed them into the kind of luxurious, gloriously
sophisticated, and indeed soulful disco, that would have made Chic proud.
With their irresistibly taut and funky bass lines, satin sheet strings and never too much cowbell, The
Drop Out Orchestra found themselves in demand as official remixes for both club scene peers such as
Black Strobe and Flight Facilities and industry legends like Paul Weller. Meanwhile not content with
just making other people’s music 100% more disco, original tracks, including collaborations with
Ronika and LCD Soundsytem’s Nancy Whang, on labels like Eskimo Recordings and Gomma

After finding the rave scene in 1990, Lee bought his first set of decks a year or two later. Initially influenced by the music in the North West and clubs like Legends (Warrington), The Quad, Cream, The Hacienda he started his music collection and would play at parties, the odd bar gig and create mixtapes for friends.

Fast forward to the turn of the decade (and century!), now living in London, Lee was part of an underground party collective called Most Excellent, putting on parties at various South London venues such as Brockwell Park Lido and The Telegraph (Brixton), playing classic, funky and soulful house music playing alongside a few notable guests like Trevor Fung and Stuart Patterson. 

After a break of about 10 years to get married and start a family, he started listening to the likes of Fingerman, LNTG, The Reflex and was hooked on the underground edits and disco scene. The decks were dusted off and he started to buy music again…

Lee is now proud to be part of the #DiscoWaltons family, a DJ, Producer and music fan collective who frequent the chatrooms of some of the best music shows and livestreams available to humankind!

Wayne Houghton (Good2Groove) – A Master of Disco & House

With over 25 years in the game, Wayne Houghton—better known as Good2Groove—is a powerhouse DJ from Halifax whose passion for disco and house music runs deep. His journey, which began in the mid-90s, has seen him share the decks with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Joey Negro, E Smoove, Graeme Park, CJ Mackintosh, Groove Assassin, Ron Basejam, Victor Simonelli, Inland Knights, Saison, Ron Carroll, Terry Farley, Lenny Fontana, Bobby & Steve, Dennis Ferrer, Lisa Loud, Danny Rampling and Richard Earnshaw, to name just a few.

A Pioneer in the Scene

Wayne’s love for soulful, deep groove sounds led him to co-found the Sneaky Disco podcast, a platform that has exploded in popularity, racking up over 500,000 plays and earning the respect of heavyweight DJs and producers worldwide.

Not content with just curating sounds online, he took things to the dancefloor by co-founding The Get Up, a highly acclaimed house music night that has become a staple in Sowerby Bridge and recently expanded to Dean Clough. Known for its electric atmosphere and top-tier music selection, The Get Up has firmly established itself as one of Yorkshire’s go-to house music events.

Wayne’s latest venture, Re-Groove, is rapidly making waves. Built on a foundation of quality house music, the event not only showcases international talent but also strongly supports local DJs and up-and-coming artists, proving Wayne’s dedication to growing the scene from the ground up.
