The Black Light Disco show launched itself into the myhouseradio.fm stratosphere one more with another classic to get your feet tappin’ and your fingers a-poppin. 

Taking control of the decks in the 'sonic sensory room' deep within BLD Towers is our resident Esteban (aka Ste Hendry), who was spinning tunes form the likes of Pete Maxey & Art of Tones, Lup Ino, Reverendos of Soul, Phonk D, Vaudafunk and D.C La Rue to name but a few. 

For the second hour, we have one of the hottest names on the scene right now on guest mix duties, someone who we’ve really been looking forward to inviting on -  Rafael Yapudjian!

Rafael Yapudjian is considered one of the great names in the Brazilian House/Disco scene and has a consistent and unique musical repertoire that brings together tracks from Soulful to Nu Disco, which incorporate sound roots from Funk and Jazz and resulting in a quite intoxicating blend for the dance floor.

A veteran of over 20 years of career, he had his first DJ residency in the former São Paulo club, Cheers, and as a result, came into the night through the booths of Vinyl and Museum, also including residency at the illustrious Pacha São Paulo, where he did many warm ups for names ranging from Louie Vega to FatBoy Slim. This opportunity opened doors for him to explore the four corners of Brazil and the world, stamping passports in Germany, Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Portugal, Switzerland and Italy, to name a few.

He played at the traditional Creamfields Brasil and other major festivals, and has also won awards for 'best Deep and Soulful House DJ' by DJ Sound (2011)and 'Top 50 DJs' by House Mag and Best New DJ by VIP magazine in 2015.

Rafael is also the name behind A Casa Records and the Music Branding company D’Sound Solutions, which currently complies over 200 clients throughout Brazil. In short, he is the complete artist - always open to new sounds and constantly reinventing himself around his true passion: music.

By no means a newcomer - but a fresh face on the disco scene, the weeks mixtape artist - Birdee has managed to carve out quite a path for himself, remixing luminaries such as Aeroplane and Michael Gray, collaborating with legendary singers Barbara Tucker and Angela Johnson, and releasing on Glitterbox, Big Love and Nervous - amongst other labels.

His music is supported by a veritable who's who of dance music: Groove Armada, Purple Disco Machine, Mark Knight and Horse Meat Disco are all fans, while radio support has also been outstanding - as a matter of fact, Pete Tong recently opened his BBC Radio 1 show with Birdee’s breakout single Start The Weekend.

As a perfect send off to an incredibly busy 2021, Birdee was crowned Number 1 Nu Disco Artist of the year on Traxsource, whilst also scoring an impressive Number 7 position in the overall category.

Born and raised in the old school rhythms of the B-Boy world where he first laid his dancing moves and grooves in his childhood. With real inspiration and a little “keeping it real” mantra, the artist made his first steps into the musical world.

These frequent B2B buddies were cooking up something special in the Sonic Distillery here in BLD Towers. We conducted an experiment to test psychic links between the two - asking them to each pick their tracks without consulting the other. The results speak for themselves;  two tracks were repeated so definitely something going on there. Both sets have a great uptempo feel to them and we know you're gonna love this two hours of rump-shaking goodness.

Good Custard Mixtape 064: AP

It’s a pleasure to welcome my buddy Craig Adams as my guest this week. He always plays an absolute blinder, and I am a regular listener to his own radio show.

It all started for Craig as a clubber who loved this music and started collecting all the 12” records that he heard in the clubs and on the radio. He was naturally drawn into DJing, and learnt to mix on Tandy belt-drive turntables. In his own words, “the belt-drives were murder as was the mixing”

As for the rest of his musical journey, here are some more words from the man himself.

“I still have all the 12”s I bought, must have close to 2000 of them, mainly House and Old-Skool from 90s. I got myself some Technics eventually but the mixing never improved much, although the new tech has made it all too easy.

Kevin Jones from Radio Fourth Edinburgh was my main inspiration which is mad because I played a Clubnight for which he was a no show for 1 night in Club M8, and now I’m in his old radio show slot on Radio Saltire when he decided to hang up his headphones. I’ve been involved there now for around 5 years, starting out as part or Elements of Rhythm show, then on my own with my HouseNation Radio Show for the past 3 years. I’ve been playing gigs in Glasgow and Edinburgh where all proceeds go to keep the station running.

The last gig we had Yomanda headlining and previous to that we have had Dream Frequency and other top names DJs from the Oldskool side for our Back2Basics Show.
