Nobody knew too much about Krywald & Farrer when their email landed in our Gmail accounts late earlier this month. They’ve earned their stripes, yes. Their residencies at a number of London’s clubs tell us that story. But today’s debut tells us that they clearly just get a kick out of smushing genres together.

“The People’s Asafo” sees warm house textures flirt with an infusion of Ghanaian beatwork for eight minutes. A coaxing leg-shaker if there ever was one. It arrives on March 30th (via Silver Bear Recordings) and backed by B-side “He’s The Chief” which continues the afrocentric theme with gusto.

With now legendary residencies at number of London’s most revered clubs, Krywald & Farrer have steadily ingrained their cultured blend of genres and grooves across the city’s clubbing landscape and beyond. The release further propels Rob Da Bank’s specialist electronic label as one of the most progressive and exciting around.

Since crossing paths at Gottwood Festival in Wales and playing together at the much lauded Pecolate, the duo found a mutual love in the other’s vast record collections, planting the seed that has flourished into their debut release. ’The People’s Asafo’ showcases their kaleidoscope of far reaching influences, an African infusion of Ghanian beat blends and warm house grooves which mould and morph over a blissful 8 minutes. B-side ‘He’s The Chief’ builds upon this template and two tracks sit perfectly alongside each other.

True house auteurs, sampling and borrowing from an array of musical spectrums, moulding and reinvigorating a soundscape in a similar vain to that of Moodyman and Theo Parrish, Krywald & Farrer celebrate a thrillingly unique vision.

If you heard our top 100 2015, you probably remember Liem's "If Only I Could", a feel-good deep house anthem released via the German label Lehult as part of a split release with Lucky Charmz. Early February, Lehult is turning up the heat with another big EP, this time by a young Hamburg based producer who goes by the name of Eddie Ness and already made an appearance on the imprint last year. The four tracker is entitled "Afro" and includes three original tracks, "Ombré" premiered here, "Afro" and "Menjou" as well as a Borrowed Identity remix of "Ombré". Like most Lehult records, it's quality, and it's probably going to end up with silly prices on Discogs, so you'd better not sleep on this one!

When we look back at Gonjasufi’s career, it’s hard to tell exactly what his legacy will be. Will it be weeded, wheezing singing? Or will it be the ominous mutter-raps that pop up occasionally? Probably both. Or none at all, and something else we don’t even know about instead. Gonjasufi is an expert at pushing boundaries and then ignoring them so completely that his music turns into a timeless, murky reflection of a dude who is influenced by everything. Gonjasufi’s The 9th Inning is not a follow up to his complicated A Sufi and a Killer, but instead a collection of tracks that show what happens when you have too many good ideas to keep them all in one place. It’s somewhat difficult, weird and exasperating, which is exactly what it should be.
