Jonny Megabyte returns to Good Street for our first release of 2020. In the 2000’s Jonny Megabyte became one of the few UK artists to be signed to the legendary DJ Godfather’s Detroit ghettotech label Databass Records. Following releases on London’s bass-heavy Wide Records and sadly departed pioneer, DJ Rashad’s Juke Trax, he signed to Canada’s Philthtrax, releasing a number of EP’s fusing footwork, ghetto, juke and bass. Since then, JM has had releases on Los Angeles Juke Bounce Werk and DJ’ed a number of dates in LA with the crew. JM has DJ’ed for Liverpool’s That Thing, supported Anna Morgan in Bristol, Kaptain Cadillac in Paris and still regularly plays his local pub.

During this time, JM, along with another Detroit legend Six Foe, released Just Like Dat on Good Street. This EP made it to number one in Juno Download’s Footwork charts, and was a unique example of footwork fused with a rapped vocal. Rolled Notes & Anecdotes is no different. This time collabing with UK Jungle/Grime vocalist RT1MC on three tracks, this EP appeals both to old-school ravers looking for a new sound, and forward-thinking newcomers who appreciate a nod to the past. Explosive energy, alongside Jonny Megabyte’s appetite for bouncing basslines and RT1MC's vocal talent, perfectly draws on the sounds prevalent within the Good Street camp.

'Foot Forward' and 'Outta Control' are serious dancefloor destroyers, and will fit into a Footwork, Jungle or Grime set with ease. Closing the EP, 'Aromatic Riddim' is a chilled, Jungle-inspired track, with deep pounding bass that will test your subs.

The release kicks off with a Chicago inspired track titled 'Do This Shit' by label head http://soundcloud.com/ventah, combining a driving bass with laid back synths. Next up is 'Religion' by http://soundcloud.com/junglord, a Juke/Jungle hybrid, clearly showing his ability to mix the two genres; solid Footwork rhythms with hard Jungle breaks. With releases on Duck N' Cover Records and Booty Tune, and recently launching his own record label Equalized, https://soundcloud.com/eqwhy is making big steps both in Chicago and throughout the world. And now we are proud to welcome him to the biggest Footwork label in the UK, https://soundcloud.com/goodstreetrecords.

Rewind back to 2001-2002 when EQ Why started producing and DJing... long before social media, when real work got put in... and you can hear how that era has influenced his current sound - tracks made for the Footwork circle. Hunt out the videos online and you'll find dancers at Chicago's Battlegroundz battling to the tracks on this EP.

The raw, syncopated energy in these five tracks is unmistakeably https://soundcloud.com/eqwhy. The conga rolls and tight percussion is an important element of his sound, and has been done expertly in this release. As a follow up to Night Lights, his first Good Street release in 2019, Wissota has channelled his own personal experiences of 2020 into Stay Safe. A strong mix of Footwork rhythms, lush ambient pads and home recorded sounds, the minimal feel is one that can resonate with us all - a slowdown of life with an underlying relentless rhythm just yearning to break feel.

As said by Wissota himself... 'During a break in my job from the Covid-19 quarantine I wanted to write a new EP that's calming and brings a sense of safety and security in the crazy times we're in. A large point of transition in my life, my job ended, and I decided to take the opportunity to adventure to the pacific northwest. This EP seeks to capture the emotions I was feeling at this point in time. They are all pretty personal.'

'Good Morning' plays with randomization over a heavily syncopated beat, pulling into a four-on-the-floor driving groove. 'Hum' uses recorded voices chopped up with samples of things found in a room, such as a shot glass, cookie tin, salt shaker, knife and spoon for percussion. This is mixed with recordings of Wissota's own claps and snaps, layered with drum machines. 'Distances' uses a lo-fi recording of a cobble beach in Oregon. Listen closely and you can hear Wissota's friend yell his name over the waves, just before the hats kick in. Full of lush meditative pads that break into a massive 80's bass synthwave feel at 160. 

'Follow' boasts huge powerful synths balanced with the sounds of nature. It's a track full of hope and rebuilding. 'Max Speed' is the high powered closer, which feels like driving through a city, at night, in the rain. Leading into a massive drop with a live drum kit, layered with piano, strings, trumpet and pads.

As a follow up to Night Lights, his first Good Street release in 2019, https://soundcloud.com/wissotamusic has channelled his own personal experiences of 2020 into Stay Safe. A strong mix of Footwork rhythms, lush ambient pads and home recorded sounds, the minimal feel is one that can resonate with us all - a slowdown of life with an underlying relentless rhythm just yearning to break feel.

'During a break in my job from the Covid-19 quarantine I wanted to write a new EP that's calming and brings a sense of safety and security in the crazy times we're in. A large point of transition in my life, my job ended, and I decided to take the opportunity to adventure to the pacific northwest. This EP seeks to capture the emotions I was feeling at this point in time. They are all pretty personal.'

'Good Morning' plays with randomization over a heavily syncopated beat, pulling into a four-on-the-floor driving groove. 'Hum' uses recorded voices chopped up with samples of things found in a room, such as a shot glass, cookie tin, salt shaker, knife and spoon for percussion. This is mixed with recordings of Wissota's own claps and snaps, layered with drum machines. 'Distances' uses a lo-fi recording of a cobble beach in Oregon. Listen closely and you can hear Wissota's friend yell his name over the waves, just before the hats kick in. Full of lush meditative pads that break into a massive 80's bass synthwave feel at 160. 

'Follow' boasts huge powerful synths balanced with the sounds of nature. It's a track full of hope and rebuilding. 'Max Speed' is the high powered closer, which feels like driving through a city, at night, in the rain. Leading into a massive drop with a live drum kit, layered with piano, strings, trumpet and pads.
