Here's the recording from my Dj set in Dublin last december. It was a great night in one of my favourite cities. Thanks to Shane for the recording and to everybody that came and party hard. It's a 3 hour set.

Metaphors related to energy are common currency among those who try to render into words the manifold dynamics that take place on a dancefloor. They are useful symbolic tools that offer both a fair appreciation of the exchanges between the people involved and an accurate depiction of the forces at play. And, if we consider how much sonic and affective power fill up those places in every dimension imaginable whenever the music starts playing, we quickly realise it is all about the circulation of waves across the space and through everyone, flowing constantly between generation and conversion and manifesting itself in motion and emotion. The dynamics at play are not as intricate as they are delicate, relying more on harmony and intensity than balance and precision, and the proper handling of these delicate parameters demands the type of sensibility that our current guest shows at every opportunity she has, be it online or offline, as their deep heat does not dissipate. Sol’s sets radiate in splendorous ways, emitting joy and conserving excitement in equal measures, while manipulating warmth and molding moods for maximum enjoyment. And that’s exactly what we have here.

Richard Fribert and Gabriel Badwan presents a ride into completely unknown music territory, filled with their gems from the 80s-90s music, from Brazil and beyond. Parisian based Swedish DJ Richard and Curitiba based Gabriel shares a passion for unearthing yet unheard of music from the depths of the music vaults, and this mix is no exception. Together they form an explosive duo filled with both mad music and a highly positive contagious energy that defies the conventional and everything mainstream.

Sharing can be deemed as the quintessential human action, since some of the most delightful things in our lives can simply be made better when we perform this fundamental gesture. Be it mild altering substances, knowledge, orgasms or the one that gives a reason to be here periodically: music, the best qualities of all of these elements are enhanced when enjoyed with someone else. DJing in itself is a radical act in which the person at the controls shares their taste and warmth in order to take us all on their journey. We share space and time, energy and feelings, to conjure these magical moments on the dancefloor. So, when we have a duo operating these factors, chances are that they will all be intensified and diversified at a similar level. Sharing a creative platform is more about complicity than synchronicity, but when the compatibility is just precise, all risks are divided and the results multiplied as our current guests show very well across their multifarious presence on both the booth and the studio. From blinding mixes such as the one that crowns this episode to stellar releases on storied labels worldwide, everything to which Rhode & Brown have devoted their passion and converged their visions proves not only that two minds might think better than one, but two hearts can reach wider and deeper when beating at a similar pace.

Platforms such as this one thrive because the elements that make it possible defy all kinds of distances. Apart from what the internet itself has allowed us to cover in that regard over the past decades, the music we feature helps us cover the vastness of many geographic territories and a variety of demographic generations. In the end, what is really important here is the confluence it might facilitate than any influence it could disseminate among both artists and audience. It is a meeting point of tastes as much as it is a melting pot of desires, where sensorial stimulation and cultural circulation happen at the same level and intensity allowing for spectacular things to happen at each episode. And this one is no exception, a delightful trip through exquisite rhythmic patterns and exciting harmonic structures helmed by one of the most gifted talents hailing from the fertile dancefloors found in the Brasilian South. A likeminded artist and kindred spirit, Kika not only fits perfectly in the colourful family of worldwide selectors congregated in this place by their stellar contributions, but elevates it with her strong sensibility and delicate dexterity.

Sometimes we happen to take some of the fundamental aspects that guide our main mission for which this platform is a crucial resource for granted, even if we never underestimate their place in what makes it something singular amid the multitude of similar content that can be found online. Take eclecticism for example, a quintessential characteristic of every single contribution to the series and an overall quality that is pursued by each of the guests we have in the construction of their deeply personal musical narratives. Not a mean feat, if we take into account the sheer diversity of rhythmic patterns and harmonic structures involved that need to be concatenated cohesively or, at the very least, sequenced harmoniously to be able to engulf us in its motional thrust and emotional pull. The greatness of all the mixes featured in this collection lies in the fact that they rely mostly on both a delicate play of moods and an intricate balance of forces, managing to harness their energy and use it towards stimulating our bodies, exciting our senses, enticing our minds and warming our hearts in the process. This episode is no exception, quite the opposite, as Lago brings his singular selective sensibility and elegant use of skills to weave an enthralling thread of gliding grooves that intertwine with alluring melodies from all over the globe.

You might know him for his cult compilations "Disco Sympathie" & Pop Sympathie" on Versatile label but he's much more than that. Relentless lawyer and digger among the diggers, he's praised by everybody for his kindness and his incomparable knowledge of vintage music. Vidal promised to deliver this mix when the dinosaurs were still on earth so well happy Alzheimer doesn't get all of us yet. He was also our first guest in our still running "La Rotonde Stalingrad" residency for a memorable party. Welcome on board Monsieur !

Desert Island Disco (@desert-island-disco) are a DJ collective born out of parties thrown at the late Lakota - Bristol, UK. United by their shared love of disco and its wonderful permutations, their musical pallet has matured over the last 10 years to include flavours across many eras and geographies. They play anything from Boogie, to Afro, Synth-pop, Zouk, italo, and everything in between.

"This mix hopes to sweep you up with flamboyant 80s-flavoured cuts, dubby disco numbers, and some smooth street soul. Littered with a couple of newly discovered Italo tracks and a few House thumpers to add that cosmic edge and energy.

FriedCast 019 - Flamboyance by Desert Island Disco (UK & ES)

Luke Howard, James Hillard, Severino Panzetta and Jim Stanton are considering the connection between Love and Dancing, the title and twin driving engines behind their first artists’ album. Luke, James, Seve and Jim are the nightlife disciples behind Horse Meat Disco. In the 16 years their little Sunday soirée metamorphosed into a global phenomenon, HMD resuscitated the rich pulse, flavour and heart of dance music’s original bacchanal, handing it back in a frosted cocktail glass to the LGBTQ community disco first embraced. Their names are quite simply synonymous with Good Times.

‘We wanted the record to be about going out and coming home,’ says Luke. ‘From the beginning to the end of the night.’ At HMD, the communion of love and dancing braids seamlessly into one intricate knot. ‘For me, the idea of going out was always connected to the idea that I might meet somebody on the dancefloor. You go out with this hope, that you’ll have a good time but also that there might be somebody there, waiting for you at the end of it.’

Love and Dancing is a sensational, scholarly, elastic skirmish through the outer edges of disco, from soulful to cosmic, hands to the sky glamour and heads down boogie. Sample light, cover version free and diligently star-studded from across disco’s sparkling prism, it is the sound of here and now, nodding to the past while rollerblading into a brighter tomorrow, forever disco’s fleet-footed purpose.

So, every week we receive such an arrival, guests refreshing things anew by laying out the sonic itineraries drawn throughout their journeys for our enjoyment. This episode brings us the pleasure of harbouring the talents of an Aussie traveller whose endeavours have impressed and delighted us for a while: Mike Who, someone whose name might look somewhat interrogative at first sight, but whose presence is always exclamative of a deep commitment to music and affirmative of the lifelong passion that fuels it.
