We are proud to state that our guest today for the fourteenth edition of TropiCaldo Sonoro is one of the greatest talents in the production of national electronic music.

Ágatha Prado aka Agrabah owns a musical research that goes beyond the commonplace. Exploring the roots and strands of House and Disco Music, Agrabah makes the versatility between these genres the inspiration for her signature. Dj and curious researcher, Agrabah plays with the sounds of the 80s and 90s oldschool, sometimes flowing through the beats in 4x4, sometimes diving into the grooves of Breakbeat, bringing even unconventional sounds from different parts of the world to the dance floors.

As a producer, Agrabah also develops her influences within the Pós Disco and House Oldschool strands, focusing on urban and vanguardist atmospheres, sometimes softer, other times more explosive. With releases by labels as Gop Tun, Filth Inc, Clipp.Art, Coyribe, Ginga and Bongosynth Agrabah has already received support from artists like Monki, Moving Still, The Blessed Madonna, Nick Warren and Moskalus.

“Lately I've been floating over Balearic and Slow dancers vibes. Maybe because I'm away from the dancefloor, I've been consuming more songs that inspire a more retro-ambient mood with tropicality from the 80’s. So the set is connected through these references, ranging from City Pop to Balearic.”

Ágatha Prado aka Agrabah é dona de uma pesquisa musical que vai além do lugar comum. Explorando raízes e vertentes do House e Disco Music, ela faz a versatilidade entre esses gêneros sua inspiração para uma identidade bem ampla. Metaphors related to energy are common currency among those who try to render into words the manifold dynamics that take place on a dancefloor. They are useful symbolic tools that offer both a fair appreciation of the exchanges between the people involved and an accurate depiction of the forces at play. And, if we consider how much sonic and affective power fill up those places in every dimension imaginable whenever the music starts playing, we quickly realise it is all about the circulation of waves across the space and through everyone, flowing constantly between generation and conversion and manifesting itself in motion and emotion. The dynamics at play are not as intricate as they are delicate, relying more on harmony and intensity than balance and precision, and the proper handling of these delicate parameters demands the type of sensibility that our current guest shows at every opportunity she has, be it online or offline, as their deep heat does not dissipate. Sol’s sets radiate in splendorous ways, emitting joy and conserving excitement in equal measures, while manipulating warmth and molding moods for maximum enjoyment. And that’s exactly what we have here.

Sharing can be deemed as the quintessential human action, since some of the most delightful things in our lives can simply be made better when we perform this fundamental gesture. Be it mild altering substances, knowledge, orgasms or the one that gives a reason to be here periodically: music, the best qualities of all of these elements are enhanced when enjoyed with someone else. DJing in itself is a radical act in which the person at the controls shares their taste and warmth in order to take us all on their journey. We share space and time, energy and feelings, to conjure these magical moments on the dancefloor. So, when we have a duo operating these factors, chances are that they will all be intensified and diversified at a similar level. Sharing a creative platform is more about complicity than synchronicity, but when the compatibility is just precise, all risks are divided and the results multiplied as our current guests show very well across their multifarious presence on both the booth and the studio. From blinding mixes such as the one that crowns this episode to stellar releases on storied labels worldwide, everything to which Rhode & Brown have devoted their passion and converged their visions proves not only that two minds might think better than one, but two hearts can reach wider and deeper when beating at a similar pace.

Sometimes we happen to take some of the fundamental aspects that guide our main mission for which this platform is a crucial resource for granted, even if we never underestimate their place in what makes it something singular amid the multitude of similar content that can be found online. Take eclecticism for example, a quintessential characteristic of every single contribution to the series and an overall quality that is pursued by each of the guests we have in the construction of their deeply personal musical narratives. Not a mean feat, if we take into account the sheer diversity of rhythmic patterns and harmonic structures involved that need to be concatenated cohesively or, at the very least, sequenced harmoniously to be able to engulf us in its motional thrust and emotional pull. As far as metaphors go, calling this platform a port of sorts wouldn't be much of a stretch. A pristine example of how our creativity can turn pain into something universally understood that can be widely enjoyed and thoroughly appreciated. Such a powerful transmutational dynamic has been reproduced at a smaller scale in every dancefloor and across radio waves on this side of the Atlantic for the best part of the past century. The same alchemy that we strive to reiterate, not merely replicate at every episode, especially when we have a gifted guest hailing from that harbour of historical heritages. Ubunto is not just one of its finest artists, but a sagacious selector whose hectic and eclectic mixes are endless sources of danceable energy and aural delight.

These texts are meant to be a sort of introduction as much as they serve as a kind of statement of intentions, from the hosts and guests alike: a nice prelude to the musical message the latter aims at conveying as much as the former means to disseminate. Given the source material, there is a recurrence of themes and terms, something whoever follows this platform might have noticed long ago. We constantly praise guests for being prolific, we often mention abundance, we frequently talk of wealth and richness, and so on. But what lies behind these concepts is an idea that becomes fundamentally obvious whenever we remember the fact that we are talking about culture and especially when we realise that we do it through one of its most fertile forms. So, when we welcome an artist that fully personifies all of these principles, from moniker to musicality, it is inevitable to see it as an augur of sorts. Ceres Yo embodies all of the above, adding prowess and eclecticism to the mix, as she does to this one gracing our series in this episode and everything else she’s involved with. Here we are offered an odyssey across a rhythmic itinerary as varied as it is enthralling.

"You know when you're on the beach, layin' under the sungods with your walkman on.. your eyes closed but all you see is brightness. The sounds in the background are happy, filled with hope. The kids are runnin' around, yellin' and hollerin'. The crashing shore, the tight bodies surfin' only a few feet away.  And all of a sudden the most beautiful, rich, phattest jam comes into your conscience. And for that one moment in your life, everything is washed away on that not-too-distant shore. Everything feels good. Under that sun. And you want it to last forever and ever.. I remember once having this experience. I was a teenager, and I felt like a kid. I remembered this moment and I never let it go. I still remember the mix I was listening to. It reminds me of the utter joy I felt within myself that day. It is my dream to provide the sounds that deliver an experience like that."

Conjuring memories of daydreaming in the midsts of suburbia. A new mix from @priori-ties

Some words from Priori: “I grew up in a working class neighbourhood of Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. Being an only child in the suburbs meant I spent a lot of time daydreaming and contemplating my environment. I was a bit of a melancholic kid so post-punk and ambient music made a lot of sense to me when I discovered them. I stumbled upon an album called Strike by 154 by accident, probably wanting to download something else off of Kazaa. It really changed things for me as a teenager and I still hold it dear. There's a song from it in the mix, along with a bunch of other things that bring up similar feelings for me.”

“As for news:
Alex (Dust-e-1) and I are putting out a new record as ANF on NAFF, should be out April 26th.
Some more collabs and solo things coming out in the summer.”

music for... growing up in the suburbs - Priori

E2E: Any particular environment or context you had in mind when recording this mix?

Myles Mac: Elaborating on the theme, I've been living down on the Mornington Peninsula for the last year or so which is home to some of Australia's coolest birdlife, recently prompting me and my girlfriend to go buy some binoculars and join the fray as amateur birdwatchers. Just from my place here, you can often see some pretty funky birds like the brightly coloured Eastern Rosellas and Rainbow Lorikeets, and we also get the odd visit from a cheeky Laughing Kookaburra looking for a quick bath. There's even a family of Wedge-tailed Eagles that circle around above. I'm sure one day they'll discover some pretty cool birds in outer space too, and I think this could be a nice soundtrack for all the interplanetary birdwatchers out there.

E2E: Any new projects you're working on or milestones with MDC? 

Myles Mac: MDC is into its 10th year now which is a bit of a trip! Just hope to continue sharing memorable listening journeys from all over the place but would like to focus a bit more on emerging locals as there are some incredible DJs down here that don't always get the recognition they should.

Will also be collaborating on a few tasty club shows with the Slow Burn crew next year which I'm quite excited about.
