Trance Sanctuary Podcast 100 with John Askew

Ali and I started work on this in 2012, after I played him the original track cos I knew he'd love it. We contacted the producers who did the original to ask if we could use the vocal sample. The singer said yes so long as they like the track, so I sent them a rough mix down and they loved it so she said she'd ask the rest of the band.....and then we never heard from them again...so we couldn't release officially. Regardless, here it is.

Made following a walk around Nymans woods in Sussex, not long after some we weather. Build around a recording of birds on my phone, and percussion inspired by a woodpecker we heard. 

The first time I've tried to capture an experience in my music, or tried ambient stuff.

The Free Field Recordings are a collection of 16Bit and 24Bit wav files from the Luftrum sound lab containing a broad range of various recordings from ocean waves to forest sounds, birds, gardenscapes, airport atmospheres, binaural recordings (listen with headphones for full effect!) and experiments with hydrophones, coil pickups and contact mics perfect as atmospheric background, sound effect, layered texture or otherwise.

Recorded using Sound Devices 702, DPA-4060, JrF contacts mics, hydrophones and coil pickups. Zoom H2 and Sony CS-10EM Binaural Microphones.

All sounds in Free Field Recordings playlist are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 3.0) meaning you are free to share, copy, remix or otherwise transform the sounds for commercial or non-commercial use on the condition that you give appropriate credit where the sound is used.

After a prolonged break, our podcast is back with the long-awaited 150 episode! Our special guest co-founded @beachfreaksrecords and has one of the deepest collections of obscure vinyl from the 1970s and 1980s in Europe. His passion turned into one of my fave compilations this year, Club Meduse on Spacetalk, 13 hazy, soft-focus and life-affirming cuts that you would have heard at resort discos in the mid-to-late 1980s. His last mix dated 2015, so we’re here to listen something really special. Turn on your heaters as we’re headed down south one last time this year.
