TR137 - Food People - 'Votive'

The song is titled “N’yanyan,” based on an old song passed down over time. Rokia Koné recorded it in one take on a night when the world around her was in upheaval — August 2020, when there was a coup d'etat in Mali. You can hear how she found solace in the words: “Things may be bad now, but it's only a moment in time.”

Recorded by Tony Rankin Winn. Transfer from one channel mono master audio cassette by Carter Van Pelt. (Thanks to Heart Of Gold for catching the emcee is Papa Richie.) According to Vaughn Allstar (WKCR, whose uncle owns the sound, this is an early recording. “The sound was founded 1978 but started to play around Montego Bay in 1979. The selectah is Chung Fah, DJs were Briggy Levi, Peter Saint Patrick, Junior Smiley,  also Papa Richie.”

A few months ago I did two Night In Tunisia edits. One of Chaka Khan's version (also available here) and this. This one more of a remix. Of course this is the acapella MT version. I added everything else and flipped it a little for the dancefloor with drums, rhodes, bass etc. Hope you enjoy. Vinyl will be in shops soonish...

Following up on the mixes 'Armenian Record Center' and 'Greek Record Center,' here's a mix of terrific music recorded from 78rpm records found in Cairo containing some of the most beautiful Egyptian instrumentals (plus some vocal tracks). There's a few classics on here by the likes of Abdel Wahab and Mohamed Shawqi but there's bound to be stuff you haven't heard before. Mezmerizing, soothing, nostalgic, innovative music from the golden age.

I've only reduced hiss mildly as I wanted to keep the original treble levels of the 78s.

Former Jamaican music journalist spinning original Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae vinyl on and off for 30 years.

I am a passionate man who from a very young age has been  interested in various Genres of Music , avidly seeking music that interests me . Having a vast Vinyl and CD collection , Soundcloud has become an extension of this . 
Ska , Reggae , Tamla Motown , Stax and Atlantic got my Mojo started . Followed by David Bowie , Lou Reed and Roxy Music . This was also cemented by Youth Culture alliance . 
Having been a prolific and to a lesser extent today , a Club attendee my taste for music is on going . At various stages of my life I have played my music as a Dj .
For a period I was contributor for a magazine that specialises in Soul old and new . It is called Manifesto , published in the UK . A fantastic enjoyable and informative specialist publication . 
 I hope you enjoy my selections that I put into Albums to assist your enjoyment .
