This track is from the first entry in our series "The Gothic Everyday project invites recordists and sound artists to listen for the gothic resonances in everyday life, whether by capturing things as they are or by remixing and reimagining ordinary sounds to reveal their uncanny aspects.

This inaugural entry in the series derives from two sets of routine sounds that came into focus during the stay-at-home phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, during the summer and fall of 2020: in this track, the weekly rounds of trash collection (engine noise, truck brakes, and squeaking metal); and in the next track, the sounds of a parking lot during the scheduled curbside grocery pickup that became common during that period.

This inaugural entry in the series focuses on human interactions with natural sounds: in this track, nightfall in the campgrounds of Ontario's Rockwood Conservation Area; and in the next track, the interplay of birdsong and harsh construction noise on a suburban block.

This track is from the first entry in our "Ecogothic/Ecoacoustic" project, which invites recordists and sound artists to listen to the sounds of gothic nature in field recordings and/or remixed and reimagined sounds.

Concrete Cutting, Birds

The “Unvoiced” series is an ongoing project that invites artists to recreate the non-verbal, non-musical sounds of particular scenes from gothic and horror film and television, using foley art and other techniques to think through the sound track and/or reimagine it as sound art.

This first entry in this series recreates ambient sounds from the Twin Peaks pilot, 52:42-53:42. Materials include: styrofoam, water, paper, shoes, chair, bird, electric piano.

Okay Bob (Echo)

This track is part of a study of the soundscapes of Carl Theodor Dreyer's film Vampyr (1932). This third track from the EP reimagines a scene of nighttime exploration scored by mysterious animal-like sounds.
