Dee-Bunk & Djanzy - Love Of Honey Vol. II 

It's the tenth anniversary of my Nude Disco Mixtapes. Not quite the upfront nu-disco promo packed affair that they used to be in 2010, but more where I am at musically at this particular moment in time. When I feel disconnected from any of the current dance music genres,  I start digging back into what I consider the most inspirational decades; the 80s and 90s. Tunes I would have turned my nose up at the time, have now become little time capsules, that inject some positivity into my creative life. This mixtape is an hour longer than the usual offering, simply because I got lost down so many musical rabbit holes, discovering tracks that had to make the final edit. It's not that these mixes rack up millions of streams, far from it. But, the people that press play feedback to me, and that keeps me keeping on...

Nude Disco 16 Mixtape

This mix is a short introduction to some old favourites from my ever-swelling African Music archive. This one kicks off with a Libyan disco jam before heading South for a couple of rock tracks. Most notably South Africa for Letta Mbulu, showing off her incredible vocal range on 'Mahlalela', a track produced by the legendary trumpeter and producer Hugh Masakela (R.I.P). From there it's a short stop into some Ghanaian Hi-Life, including Pat Thomas, 'The Golden Voice of Africa' with 'Enye Woa'. Later in the mix there's a bit of exploration into the Nigerian Funk & Disco scene - that era in Lagos was bottomless-pit of heavy dancefloor-fillers and outrageous creativity. A personal favourite is 'Wake Up Your Mind' by Joni Haastrup, a rallying-cry for Black empowerment and a true African Anthem. Happy Listening.

ACROSS AFRICA VOL II 
This second edition of 'Across Africa' leans a little deeper towards the Afro-disco and Afrobeat sound that still drives dancefloors from Lagos to London, blending some old-time jewels with a few souped-up but sympathetic re-versions. We kick-off with a feel-good slice of sax-and-synth-driven Ghanaian Highlife from George Darko before stopping by Tripoli to hear some 'Love Words' from the 'King of Libyan Disco', Ahmed Fakroun. After a short pit-stop in Benin to take in the awesome power of Staninslas Tohon's 'Owhaaou!' (Raphael Top Secret Edit) we head further south to South Africa for a sweet disco take on Letta Mbulu's beautiful Hamba Nam We (Free Hugs Extended Disco Edit). Later we're knee-deep in the Nigerian dancefloor with Kiki Gyan's classic 'Disco Dancer', before doubling-down with the anvil-heavy disco sound of L 'Orange Bleue from John Ozila. For the last last leg, we head into beefed-up Afrobeat territory, with the tough basslines and deep vocals of Afro King from Lego and King Sunshine's 'Love Your Brother' (Andy Roberts Afro Jazz Rub).
