For the next installment of Manc institution El Diablo’s Social Club’s ‘To Rack & Ruin’ edits series comes from local Manc lads Out of the Basement who bring us two late summer bombs.
These tracks have both been kicking around for over a year now in slightly different forms but now we bring them to you fully refined and suitably mastered heavily for the dancefloor.

Out of the Basement are Steve Leggat and James Ellis. Both have been involved in Manchester's colourful music scene - amongst other things Steve has been running legendary Beat Club with The Stone Roses Mani and James is the founder of Manchester's now defunct deep house label ‘Drenched’.

Side A is a splendid edit of lost soul classic with beats and instruments added for full effect. Side B is a sleazy slo mo cut up of the Brothers Johnson version of the Shuggie Otis anthem 'Strawberry Letter 23'.

Hailing from Istanbul in Turkey, Serkan Eles is a talented musician who's transitioned from playing guitar in bands to producing electronic music. His style blends live instrumentation with sequenced percussion and atmospheric synths. Serkan Eles is also a skilled DJ whose enrapturing sets have captivated dance floors at many of Turkey's most prestigious underground events.

For Cerrone's new EP "afro" to be released 12th february, LeonxLeon from our crew Les Yeux Orange was asked by his record company, Because Music, to do an official remix of this track, Funk Makossa, taking it's roots in Manu Dibango's classic track from 1972, "Soul Makossa". Our man LeonxLeon managed to keep the afro vibe while giving it a balearic house touch by twisting the bassline, to finally give it away and drop an acid line. Gospelhouse from heaven! Yes - this is a very special record: NYC's Phenomenal Handclap Band meets London's Ray Mang - the psychedelic soul disciples meet the disco champ by way of remix. Ray Mang is a hero to fans of underground disco: remixer, collector, producer, DJ - he is part of that magic circle of London DJ connoisseurs around DJ Harvey. He has the magic disco touch, and has applied it to great effect to PHB's 'Judge Not'. He did a fresh, new take on house-heavy gospel disco that is sure to fill any dancefloor. Try it! 

For those who don't know New York's almost legendary band: The Phenomenal Handclap Band is led by producer Daniel Collás, and consists of some of New York's finest new soul & disco musicians. Some of them used to play in the Amy Winehouse band and others can be heard on some of Mark Ronson's productions. Their biggest moment was when they released their single '15 to 20' some years ago (on Gomma Records) and Paul McCartney wrote them a letter about how much he loved that song when he heard it on BBC Radio 1. On 'Judge Not' they come up with dazzling piano lines, a deep rare funk rhythm section, and a street corner gospel choir that brings you to your feet. Ray Mang heard the original version of this song and was hyped to become involved in the remix, and the pairing is complementary to say the least.
