Forest Drive West - Haze

It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal neoliberalist mould we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. We discover that the stability we were instructed to obtain whether it be financial, political or ecological, is fleeting, if at all. The resulting anxiety is an instrument of neoliberalism that prevents many of us from being able to raise consciousness of the structural injustices that alienate us. 

In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Barad teaches us that the world is a dynamic process of intra-activity and materialisation, an ongoing ebb and flow of agency. The Buddhist Law of Impermanence proves that nothing in this world is eternal. 
Regardless of ones point of reference we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on. 

Each month we invite an artist to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero- patriarchal systems of oppression.

This month we have invited SVLBRD @w_a_r_m_t_h to reflect on this.

transience #02 with Lou Drago

Mid June will see the launch of Echocord sub-label Echo Echo with the ‘Dream Observer’ EP from Grad_u. Copenhagen’s Echocord is a Dub Techno imprint with a history dating back fifteen years and a back catalogue featuring material from genre defining artists like Deepchord, Fluxion, Sven Weisemann, Pole and grad_u who launches the new off shoot imprint Echo

The release opens with ‘Jacob’s Dream’, fifteen minutes of release date: subtly modulating synth glitches, ethereal synth drones, sweeping atmospherics and dubby echoes creating a hypnotic, ever-unfolding composition.

‘Observing The Night Sky’ then follows on the flip side with thunderous kick drums, rumbling low-end pulses, wandering dub chords and bubbling glitches all subtly nuanced throughout the tracks ten-minute duration.

The bar held deep dark secrets behind its doors: only those who frequented it knew what lay inside. It wasn't open to everyone, you had to be invited. How you got an invitiation though, that was the question. Rumours had circulated about the place and what many had encountered beyond the doors, but none of this was certain. But one thing that many had been heard countless times was that it was a place for excess. There were no half measures here...

Belgian producer, DJ and The Word radio host Cabasa debuts on Boogie Box Records with his Excess EP which includes a remix from Keysound's Otik. Following releases from Otik himself, Caldera, STL, Causa and Appleblim, the label continue their exploration into rhythmic territories with Cabasa at the helm. From the fluid synths and stuttering drums of openere 'Valleyfield' to the atmospheric melodies of 'Cats on Scooters' and broken polyrhythms of our pick 'Excess', Cabasa flaunts a masterful touch that's way beyond his years.

When it comes to a starship, it often seems to be something huge. However, once it comes closer to the Saturn, giant size of the interstellar vehicle turns to atomic particles. Great shadow of the planet envelops spaceship making it transparent in total darkness, like immersing it to the chambers of depression, so cold and distant.
The mind falls down to infinity when faced with thousand years objects. Probably, living beings will never understand what does it feel like a hundred million years long life travelling through endless empty space.
