Motion in the Shadows has been through multiple revisions and took an extensive process to create. Whilst conceiving the track, I worked with juxtaposing rhythms to reflect my jarring emotional state; creating a challenging yet introspective process.

The Rabbit, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, symbolizes longevity, peace, and most suitable for the Unchained trajectory, creativity.  

Each year we set out to collate a mélange of ambiguous club-ready electronic whilst doing our part to cross that apparent divide between drum ‘n’ bass, jungle, footwork, grime and other members of the extended bass family.

We haven’t always been wed to the massive banger alone, but we have to admit, we always will be obsessed. We don’t consider ourselves possessed by sonic slabs that are looped beyond recognition, but we hold them in high regard just the same. 

So with that in mind, curating the Year of the Rabbit compilation took some time this year.

The Year Of The Rabbit showcases artists both emerging and established from China, Russia, England, Holland, and the United States. Be it wonky, divergent, mutant, deep, or simply in the vein of the pure epic club banger, every producer has something remarkable and distinctive going on.

We introduce and welcome back our 2023 Year of the Rabbit artist crew: Subp Yao, Radiax, Lakeway, Danky, Neve, Harka, Doctor Jeep, Leo Cap, Kray, Trophy, Airstrike, Throe, Pllfry and Dynamic Stab.

Packed out with a fresh cohort of underground talent, 2023’s offering continues the label's expansion out to the furthest corners of the bass music spectrum. Once again, this record was undertaken in support of a Bristol-based cause - this year we are donating to Quartet Community Foundation’s “Cost of Living Fund”.

Almost no-one has escaped the UK cost of living crisis unscathed, including the charities and support groups that help those most in need - donating to Quartet Community Foundation allows them to allocate funding to key frontline organisations such as debt support groups, food and fuel poverty organisations and charities supporting the homeless and vulnerable elderly communities.

All profits will be donated so your purchases will help change lives across Bristol and the surrounding area.

This year’s record sees moody downtempo and hyperpop go toe-to-toe with melancholy acid house and distorted tear-out breaks on this notably darker outing, all while delivering the heavy club grooves expected from an ANY BPM record. With 14 incredible contributions from a host of our favourite artists, this one sounds just as good in your headphones as it does on the dancefloor. Enjoy x
