This week’s @MusicWeeklies challenge is #Crystals, so I thought I’d strip away all the woodwind, brass and traditional instruments.  This uncovered the complexities that have been omnipresent in the percussion.  The strings return, providing a calming soundscape for an earworm-like melody on the celeste.  What do you think?

"Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?" is one of the best-known American songs of the Great Depression. 
Written by lyricist Yip Harburg and composer Jay Gorney, it was part of the 1932 musical revue Americana; the melody is based on a Russian-Jewish lullaby. 
The song tells the story of the universal everyman, whose honest work towards achieving the American dream has been foiled by the economic collapse. 
Unusual for a Broadway song, it was composed largely in a minor key.

Crossing the lines between operatic singing, traditional pop, and jazz, with my son Gideon playing the piano.

Subtitled Solfege on Philosophical Tomes, each movement uses short phrases in Solfenglish to reference book and concepts from philosophy.

I started composing daily pieces and posting them onto SoundCloud at the beginning of 2013.  By posting daily I am tweaking, experimenting and developing a thought, idea or event in time.  I am endeavouring to show that there is no limit to that creative spark that lies within each of us.  So much of what we do nowadays is about instant return, I am about evolution not revolution (although each month starts with a clean slate).  Join me on my journey to 10,000 (18 May 2040!!!)
